I think the Flames should play Lindholm as their #1 centre. He can do more #1 centre type things than Monahan.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Monahan - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Phillips - Ryan - Gawdin

I like the look of that top line but worry the second line would really drag the team down.

I wonder now if an RFA swap of Reinhart and Mangi makes sense. I can see something like that.
Or a swing for Patrick.
Some good young RFA RHS top six level winger floating around.

Instead of signing an expensive UFA, I'd like to see considerable difference in preparation by top players. Gaudreau, PLEASE do some serious lower body training this shortened offseason. Gain some balance and strength in those legs so you're not so easily knocked off the puck. Learn from some of the greats who experienced the same shortcomings like Martin St. Louis.
This advice must have been offered to him many times when he first came in the league, and we've seen him make no effort towards it. If you want to win as you say, the offseason isn't when the work stops.
With all the skill in the world, he could make his own space if he was just able to stay on his feet. That would do wonders for his game. His weakest link is those toothpicks he steps on the ice with every home opener, time to take your training seriously my guy.

I sure hope Treliving has some solid contingency plans in place. I’m worried when he reacts and the overpriced signings happen. I’d rather he didn’t spend the additional cash because it straps the team down the road. Hope there are a few deals that can be made to improve the team even if it means taking on additional dollars of the term is acceptable.

I think Backlund and Mangiapane are both really quick and really good two way players. Mangiapane was third in even strength goals last year, and he was one of the best possession forwards on the team last year.
My reasoning behind Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk and Monahan - Backlund - Mangiapane is that each line has two players that can skate and two players that will go to the corners to dig out pucks. Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm only has one player that will dig out pucks and the centre can’t skate.

Sign me up on the Perry train. Another vet to hopefully stifle this cores annual playoff meltdown and be a calming presence.

I’m all in favour of Perry for the bottom two lines at this point. It’d be short term, reasonable cap hit, and be a pest for others. I hate the guy but would take him at this point to light a fire under Gaudreau.

Only if those players are getting signed for 2 years max. Preferably only one year. The last thing the flames need is to go after middle 6 players and giving them 4-5 year term. As much as I want change to the top line,I rather they just left as is. if they are thinking about signing anybody long term it should only be for 1st line talent.

Palmieri has one year left on his contract. Might be a good stop-gap option for the first line. What would NJ want to send him here I wonder.

Hoffman makes more sense, but I wouldn't pay him what he is going to get.
Haula and Leivo is the direction I would go.

Brad talked last season about Matthew Tkachuk's ability to carry the team and get the ball rolling some nights when the uplift was really needed. I think Perry is of the same mold and has that ability to throw a team off getting his own team back into games. Having a couple guys like that could do wonders for the team moral and momentum. I know he is not top 6 but I still think he would bring in a strong winning element.

I have to admit, having both Chucky and Perry on the team would be entertaining.

Alright, with the Hall and Gaudreau flip idea ####ing dead, here's what we've got for now:
Sign Mangi @ $3,000,000
Sign Gawdin @ $787,500
Sign Kylington @ $787,500
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
M. Lucic - S. Bennett - D. Dube
Z. Rinaldo - D. Ryan - Robinson
Gawdin, Phillips
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Tanev
Valimaki - Kylington
Petrovic
Markstrom
Rittich
OVER the cap by $997,499
Maybe they can get Mangiapane inked for a little less and run with a 22 man roster?
Lots of time for changes still though obviously.
I would REALLY like to see some league minimum vet upgrades on Rinaldo and Robinson though. Such as:
Brett Ritchie
Lucas Wallmark
Dominik Simon
Valentin Zykov
Brian Boyle
Jayce Hawyrluk
Patrick Marleau
And then maybe one or two young guys come in and push even those guys off the roster.

I wouldn't mind Perry, he just isn't going to give you much in the regular season, where he helps you is in the playoffs.
