I think that's fotze's point...

In fairness to Mrs. Fotze, the left lane before the bow river is the only lane on Crowchild NB that actually goes through. But the point remains that people tend to sit in the left lane unnecessarily for a turn kilometres down the road.

Weird and amazing story! OK, so first of all, you have to understand that our street is so suburban it isn't even on Google Streetview. So, last night at midnight, a sanding truck drives down our suburban street, laying down a rather generous layer of grit in its wake. It totally freaked me out. So much so that I called Calgary Police Services to find out if they were looking for someone with a stolen sanding truck. Today, I get home from work, and first I notice there is a giant snow pile on my yard, and I'm thinking WTF before I notice that the portion of the street in front of my house has been plowed clear of snow. And, get this, the guy running the plow even made the effort to move my garbage can and recycling bins onto my driveway. This is crazy. I'm going to have to phone my alderman and complain.

Did anyone hear Adler talking about this today? He's talking about the city's snow clearing policy (or lack thereof) and the second caller through starts going on about the fataing $25m pedestrian bridge.

And yet you can't plow roads with provincial infrastructure money, and you can't build bridges with the operating budget.

I don't get what's going on. Maybe because I've never had to commute in Calgary before. Is it normal during the winter to take over 2 hours to come down Centre St N into downtown?

I ended up getting off my bus at 16th and walked 25 blocks to my work and I beat my bus by at least 15 minutes.

A couple other people at work who take the same road were also late about 2 hours as well, but I prefer not to get fired if this happens every week.

Definitely not normal. Today was also one of those days where every method of getting downtown from the north seemed to be blocked off somehow. I spent a good 45 minutes going south on Edmonton Trail, when it should take no more than 10 during rush hour...and I know people that took 2 hours to get in from both Crowchild and 10th St.

I love how that bridge has completely shattered the lives of people. It's such a point of contention for some, that no other piece of civic business can even be discussed without someone whining "muhhh, if they weren't spending TWENTY FIVE MILLION on a bridge..."

5cm of snow in Toronto this morning and the news is covering it non-stop. People in this city freak over a flurry.

Yesterday was a total gong show. Something happened on Crowchild, so it was backed up to 40Ave at 9:00am! I detoured to Shaganappi to Memorial, and there was a lineup of cars all the way to Edworthy Park for the offramp onto Crowchild. It simply wasn't moving.

The crane took out the lights at the intersection of 4 Ave and 1 Street SE. Half the road is closed again today, to finish repairing the lights.

Supposedly, on southbound Crowchild, someone crashed their vehicle into a light standard, which was why it (plus all feeder roads and alternate routes, like 14 Street and 10 Street) was a parking lot for so long yesterday- but I don't know for sure.

It's times like this I appreciate living outside of the city and needing only five minutes to clear the city limits on the way home.

You horn-honking, slow-driving city folks are crazy.

I have been in England during a snowstorm. The fact that nobody can handle driving in it is quickly forgotten by all the snowball fights, snow men, and other shenanigans that take place.

All we do in Canada is cuss about it...
