Actually, Johan Gutenberg, a German, invented the printing press. But Germans are bad too, so no more newspapers or books either.

"Although both woodblock printing and movable type printing press technologies were already developed first in ancient China and then later in the Chinese vassal state of what now Korea in East Asia several hundred years earlier, Gutenberg was the first in Western Europe to develop a printing press."

Aye. Shoulda said the "mechanical printing press". Correct you are.

And being as how 'nine iron' is a derogatory term for asians, I'm taking my nine out of my golf bag. Straight from the 8 to the PW for me.

*I wonder if us wide-eyed honkeys get called 'drivers' or 'woods'?

Anyways, let me jump in and defend the OP. Label me whatever you want.

I am currently living in China and, yes, I eat at 'Asian' restaurants all the time. If I didn't, I would probably starve to death. But my point is this... I have met countless people who generalize and stereotype Westerners from one bad experience or from what they heard from the state controlled press here. Do I think it's fair to be lumped in with the all the playboy types who come to Asia looking for a good time, or to be viewed suspiciously because some American did something? No, but I can understand it. Generalizing is human nature, part of our defense mechanism. It is a survival skill, and if we couldn't assume that "all tigers are dangerous" we wouldn't be here today. Of course, it's not fair to those individuals lumped in with the bad. But why should you be surprised by this? Travel around the world and I dare you to find a place any different. Those who take pride in being 'open-minded' and look down on those they think are not, are generally naive IMO.

Asians have an image problem in Calgary right now and will until the gangs are gone. Look, I can understand the need to protect your own and claim "it's not fair", but don't look down on people who are trying to protect *their* own.

OK, fire away with the racist labels!

An ungainly proportion of Chinese nationals are pretty damn racist/bigoted, and not just against whites. According to my Chinese national fiancee, blacks are shunned like the plague in Mainland China, and rural Chinese are an absolute sub-class to urban Chinese.

On topic however, I will never give up Dim Sum or Pho.

Never ever ever ever ever

No. I also boycott chinese tattoos. But chopsticks and popcorn is seriously awesome. Your hands stay clean and it's super easy to grab the popcorn with chopsticks. Really, I think popcorn is the only practical use for chopsticks. And catching flies.

I've never thought of that! Should try it at work sometime to get a reaction

And to the previous poster. If I married a black guy, I'd be disowned.
Sad but true.

What if he was a black guy making $7million a year? hehe i'm sure your parents can over look that.

But yeah older chinese people are a bit racist. But they would never outwardly show their racism. They just mumble it to themselves and their family members.

Why? Cause it smells good?

Yeah in order to date a black guy and not get disowned, it would have to be Kobe Bryant.
