I'm really glad they caught one of the degenerates. Is that racist? How bought low life scum bags! I hope they all get caught, but for now, at least you have one of them! Good luck with all that and I hope your Dad is doing okay. I'm sure it's not something you get over very quickly, especially for an older person. Very traumatic.

I am for integration, but I don't believe that forcing it on a population segment is right. Remember, Aboriginal Canadians had western ways forced on them in the beginning (residential schools, loss of culture, etc). To do it again would be IMO detrimental. Thats why I say it would take cooperation on both sides...meet in the middle. With this said, is unforceable integration possible? All I wanted to do with my last post was provide insight, if someone has a plausible solution, it is more than welcome.

I am curious on your position as an aboriginal (or at least part anyway). You seem to think poorly of the Indian Act, but don't you think if Aboriginals are going to have the choice of having a separate society of some kind they have to have this written in legislation.

Yes the Indian Act has a ton of problems, but isn't it an extremely difficult issue? Maybe modifying the Indian Act is better than throwing it away?

You seem to be anti- forced integration yet not like the idea of two peoples. Doesn't a lack of integration create by definition two peoples?

Here is an interesting article about conscious and unconscious racism. Reminded me about some of the discussion in this thread.

After a paroxysm of racial viciousness at the Laugh Factory Friday night, November 17, 2006, Michael Richards, the 57-year old comedian who played Kramer on Seinfeld, explained to David Letterman and his Late Night audience the following Monday, after a barrage of negative publicity: “I’m not a racist. That’s what’s so insane about this.”

Michael’s shattered demeanor and heartfelt repentance leaves us with what I shall call Kramer’s Conundrum: how can someone who spews racial epithets genuinely believe he is not a racist? The answer is to be found in the difference between our conscious and unconscious attitudes, and our public and private thoughts.

Consciously and publicly, Michael Richards is probably not a racist. Unconsciously and privately, however, he is. So am I. So are you.
