That kid is so fast it's scary. Effortless stride too.

I'm with you there! I'd rather not get Samuel if it means that they will be handcuffed for the future. The offense is pretty young, I wouldn't mind bringing in Vilma and building a young, tough defense. A big pass rush would make that secondary look a lot better as well.

The Chiefs released Kendrell Bell. I'm so happy. They also released Ty Law. There is your cheap CB Saints fans.

I won't be thrilled if we sign Samuel, Briggs and Vilma are what's needed most. The corners were exposed because the front seven had zero qb pressure, not to say that Jason David didn't completely poop the bed but the secondary were hung out to dry. Should be very interesting to see what time the first signing comes in at, but hey tampering is illegal right?

Free agency just began tonight at midnight Eastern, and already Sirius radio is confirming that the Saints have finalized a deal for a conditional 3rd round pick in the 2009 draft to the Jets, which has landed them MLB Jonathan Vilma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the over-reaction, but we haven't had a player at MLB of this calibre since the Dome Patrol dayswith the late Sam Mills. WOW!!!!!
EDIT: Even better news, sounds like the Eagles may have a done deal with Asante Samuel for a dump truck full of money. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him. But not at that price.

Vilma will do well in the Saints scheme. They can still go after Briggs, and there are rumblings that they might take a look at trading for Marcus Stroud. That would make this Whodat happy!

Word has gotten out that Payton also called up the Giants earlier today and tried to make a trade for Jeremy Shockey. It's good to see Payton/Loomis are going to take full advantage of that roughly $40 million in cap room the Saints have. I just hope they remember to set enough money aside for Colston and Will Smith.

Stroud is a monster, but he is also coming off micro fracture surgery, but if it's a low rounder the Saints need to jump on it. Happy to see the Vilma move, now get Briggs, a linebacking group of Fujita, Vilma and Briggs would be a massive upgrade.

Jets get Kris Jenkins from the Panthers, Miami will get Jason Ferguson from Dallas and seems the Vikings have signed Madieu Williams.
Anybody know anything about this Williams character??

This will be interesting as the Eagles already have two pro-bowl caliber corners in Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown. Sheppard has been a tad injury-prone but he's been good when playing. I can only assume this move is to get bigger and more physical at the corners to match up better with the likes of T.O. and Plaxico. Either way that is going to be a beast of a secondary (Samuel, Sheppard, Dawkins, Mikell, Brown).

Im not an Eagles follower, but how is their front 4(3)/7? Stud corners sign big money and then have down years because the team they go to is sub par in the pass rush department - ie. Nate Clements for the 49ers.

Philly has a great, young front 7. Trent Cole (DE) was tied for 6th in the league with 12.5 sacks this year. Mike Patterson is our big run-stuffer in the middle and Broderick Bunkley, our other tackle, was great this year. The LBs are also very solid. This is going to be a scary D to paly against this year if the Samuel deal goes through.

I think I read somewhere that Sheppard might be getting traded...so that might explain the Samuel interest?

Thanks Rube...
If the front 7 are as strong as you say, then Samuel will be a great addition to that secondary. Players tend to take a dip when they leave the Pats, but I dont think Samuel's success was just a product of the Pats system.

Yeah, I'm starting to read stuff on this too. It would be a shame to lose Lito but he has been injured a lot. The stuff I've read has been saying either to the Pats for picks, the Saints for picks, or the Cards in a package for Fitzgerald (not a chance this happens, IMO).

49ers have picked up the final 2 years on Alex Smith's contract. With Shaun Hill being signed to a 3 year contract, hopefully they can push each other.
Trent Dilfer isn't expected to be brought back, and is apparently doing some work for the NFL network.
DeShaun Foster has been signed. Allen Rossum has also been signed for return duty.
I can't believe the Chargers waived Lorenzo Neal. Next year in FF I want the rusher he will be blocking for.

So the Jags have traded for Troy Williamson and signed Jerry Porter. I thought they liked their young receivers? They have a logjam (granted that position underperformed last year for the most part). Northcutt (who was great after moving), Wilford, Williams, Jones?
Someone's moving.

Troy Williamson has been a complete bust... 7th overall and drafted in part, to replace Moss.
Jerry Porter... ugh. That guy was a cancer in Raider-land (amongst many cancers - their owner being tops) for years and, IMO, very overrated as even a #2 receiver.
