I know you weren't directing it at me but I just wanted to say that a lot of people out there have this idea that cashier's aren't smart. Trust me, I see it everyday and deal with it sometimes and it get's very frustrating. I agree with you that there are some bad cashiers and in my opinion there are some that seem to have the IQ of a rock ... unfortunately, that really has to do with the state of our economy that these people are actually getting hired. You are right that it does paint a bad picture for the rest

I guess Nicole, I would say I am far safer to assume that the cashier I'm dealing with is an idiot. That way if I get somebody like you then I'm fine. But if I do get the idiot I'm able to verify that I get change back from my $50 bill instead of getting change from a $20.

It may come across as slightly condescending when I say "here's $50", but all I'm doing is covering my butt.

Or another way of looking at it; the better looking a cashier is; the more likely I am going to assume she is an idiot. If people take you for an idiot often, then obviously it stands to reason that you must be good looking.

Thanks for the laugh!! Most men are usually pretty nice and wanna chat and ask how your day is and how you're doing .. actually last week I was even asked out (he wanted me to come back to his place for a beer - um, no!! .. I'm not crazy). I find the worst offenders to be middle aged women .. they're usually the rudest. Maybe I just work in area with a lot of premenopausal women??

I have a beef on these self check outs as well. I was using the ones at walmart and the little scales are ****ing me off. I bought a bunch of little things that have no weight so when it tells me to put them in the bag and it does not register the 1\16th of an ounce that I out in there it has problems and the person watching over them has to come over.

Yeah, I had exactly the same experience, except that the person watching over it was busy with another customer, so I ended up taking a few bolts out of another bag and dropping them in the baggage area.

I've got a few:

Back in drivers who have to park their car or truck just so. It takes them ages to back in, keeping you waiting for ever, it seems.

Muggles: geocaching term for people who steal a cache that's been hidden, especially those that simply vandalise them.

Truck drivers that drive like flipping idiots, and there's lots of them, and this is coming from someone who drives a truck for work.

I had to laugh a vanisleflamesfans grievances from living in England. My wife is Canadian and when I first met her I asked her if she was American! We managed to get past that faux pas. We've been married 16 years now!!! Coffee does suck in England and even though I'm English I HATE tea. I learned to lose the "Ice" from ice hockey very quickly.

People do that? I'm guessing not at the sites that I've seen them, as usually I'll see them on the way to a summit. Where do these things generally get hid, anyways?

people who don't know how to drive (would take too long to list all the stupid things some people do)

people who walk slow

politically correct language for the sake of politically correct language...it's merry christmas not merry holidays

You need to learn how to hit the 'skip bagging' button on the screen then.

The Wal Mart by my place has taken that option out now; unless it is a very large item.

Literally everywhere. There are over 300,000 caches hidden around the world, 2800 in Alberta alone. They can be in urban or rural areas. Check out www.geocaching.com and type in your postal code to see caches near your location.

And yes some people do vandalise them but as most are hidden quite well this doesn't happen that often.

My festivus grievance is shoppers here in italy that will race me to the checkout with their basket full of stuff and I am holding one item. OK, fine, go ahead of me bitch. Now, just make sure you have everything because the next one of you freaks that runs to the deli to grab some prociutto AFTER the clerk has started to check your items is going to get an earful (in my really bad italian).

edit... my other grievance is the random log out that still plagues me. man, its soooooooooooo forkin annoying when I write a post, hit send, and my account just logs out instead.
