So
He did try to get some assets at the deadline and didn’t sit on his hands right?

As for the hockey related news, Conroys choice to sit on his hands this deadline turns out to be an awful choice. No playoffs, lost pick and yet another year in the mushy middle. That should be strike one for Conroys time as GM.

I mean sure, we can criticize him. But he has a boss to answer to as well.
And usually the higher ups on the Flames are very delusional about their playoff and cup chances. They probably legit thought we could win the cup this year, that's how dumb our ownership is.

Just because I criticize the Flames ownership and management doesn't make me less of a fan than someone who blindly loves what they do no matter what. I have watched just about every Flames game for the last 25 years. I own many jerseys, buy tickets to many games, and own tons of Flames merchandise. I am a Flames fan.
The thing is, I want to see this team eventually become a legit playoff contender. And I'm not happy with a lot of the decisions being made. We have been one of the least successful teams since I can remember. We should have sold off Anderrson, Coleman, Kadri and others at the deadline. But of course we didn't because we had an outside chance to chase for playoff revenue for 2 playoff games.
I thought last year was a step in the right direction. But I'm worried this is just the same old Flames ownership and management as usual. Wolf has hidden so many flaws on the team. This is a horrible team, and we need to be rebuilding because we have no 1st line level talent.

Since Backlund has come back, Flames are 0-1-1 after going on a 4 win streak.
I thought all the pundits said we were going to figure out how much Backlund is truly important to this team after his injury. They were quick to point it out when the Flames started with a few losses once he left but I guess no one wants to do the latest comparison.
He is an okay player but quite overrated.
Draisatl's performance during last night should be a clear message to the Calgary Flames that you need an elite superstar player who can break the game. You only really get that through top picks in the draft. I doubt they got the message though.

In sport you find that teams tend to play up or down to the opposition, that game the flames really played down to the oilers level. Thhe oilers are still only a one line team, other than that they have nothing and we played down to that.
I also hate how the oilers get away with playing basketball style player blocking. Numerous times during the game an oiler would impede one of the flames players to allow the oiler with the puck to move up ics, clear interference but never called.

Failed because he was incapable of improving this teams playoff chances or improving their draft pick to top 10. Why are you focused on only 1 player? What are your thoughts on nothing happening at the deadline?

I don't necessarily agree. 1/2 of the top scorers currently in the top 10 and top 20 are lower first round picks to not even a 1st round pick.

I’m not “focused” on anything. I was just trying to understand your position “he sat on his hands” he tried to move Kadri until Kadri blocked it”
I apologize, now I see my error in trying to understand your point
In fact, I’ve heard that he was leaning towards moving Kadri and Andersson, but it was both or neither because only moving one would literally be committing to neither the playoffs nor bottoming out. I’m not sure I agree with that but once Kadri blocked things, it made it easier to pivot to moving Andersson in the summer

I am not buying you are a fan. You only show up when things are bad and when you do show up when we are successful it's only to piss on everyone's parade.

The Flames need both MIN and STL to slow down considerably as well as VAN to not keep pace. Then they need to go on a stretch run of at LEAST 7-2-2 to squeak in at the same time. This while beating teams they can’t seem to beat at all this year.
I love the optimism, but this team is not doing that. I’m not sure we even go .500 in the remaining games. The lack of superstar power on this team continues to haunt us and all we’ve managed to do this season is play over our heads, ride a hot young goalie and destroy our chances at drafting said star power. This while simultaneously pooping ourselves over Brads greatest trade and surrendering our best 1st rounder this year anyway.
What a dumpster fire of mediocrity once again.
I’ve said it before, this team can’t even be good at sucking, we’re firmly cemented in as the most mushy middle franchise.

I could have been clearer in my thoughts too, no worries.
The issue with moving Andersson this summer is that the markets were absolutely sizzling for players on good contracts with limited term at the deadline (Laughton returned a first and a prospect, Andersson should have significantly more value than that). I have serious doubts that holding onto Andersson for a few months of, what ended up being meaningless hockey, was worth passing on that hot trade deadline.
I’m just voicing my opinions on Conroys (in)actions, not your post or opinion in particular. Cheers.

I believe if someone had met Conroys price for Rasmus he would have been dealt
Other than him, and Kadri who doesn’t want to go and has a full ntc, I don’t see who else they would have dealt. Others have trade protection or tough to move contracts

Yeah let’s rely on finding another Kucherov. The top 5 pick is still the best way to get a superstar. Don’t know why people waste energy to argue against that.

I agree with most of this except I don’t believe he wanted to move Rasmus. I really believe he thought this team would make the playoffs and didn’t want to disrupt the morale in the room with a big trade.
There are a few other guys who could have been on the block but (I believe) it would have been deeper cuts (Weegar, Vladar) and that’s not the rebuild path this team wants to take.
Ultimately Conroy did nothing and predictably put this team in a mediocre finish. The only positive I see from this year is that Wolf has a real chance at being an excellent goalie. The forwards are the worst at scoring in the league, the defense outside of Weegar and maybe Parekh is pedestrian at best, and we have no meaningful first rounder to speculate on.
Rough year for the flames.
