I think I'll have to liquidate all my Canadian holdings on Monday outside of my ESPP. Fortunately I have a good chunk in US holdings so the exchange rate will help but I'll probably start liquidating all my US shares as well. I'll have to find some safe places to park the money for the near term.

Gotta fight back.

Why are you guys going back and forth with a Maga member?
Let the orange rapist do what he wants. Don't tariff the US is the worst advice anyone who loves Canada would give.

Again, you can't tariff other countries. You can tariff your own citizens.

Is there a safe place right now? Asia's probably going to have a bit of a meltdown.
I'm going to part my money in West African honey bee factories.

Yeah, I mentioned that the other day:

It's an interesting gambit because if everyone else ignores Trump and the drugs and illegal immigrants keep coming in at a comparable rate, we still have no choice but to maintain our own defense spending. The casualty will be to make the world economy worse off, including for US consumers. It's good game theory to bet that won't happen because it requires mass cooperation on behalf of the rest of the world and no one acting in individual self-interest.

On behalf of Canadians I hope it doesn't happen. Americans dealing with artificially high costs is bad enough, no need to proliferate it all over the world.

You aren't Canadian. We don't need your terrible advice to prop up your dear leader's early onset dementia.

Yeah, as long time customs workers that have overseen tariffs on products will attest, your tariffs against countries are duties that apply at your docks/terminals on domestic companies as they move goods and products in.
That's the extent of the 'jurisdiction' for any country's tariffs. None of it is conducted nor collected within another country.
And that's precisely why blanket retaliatory tariffs like truml is doing is the most foolish thing Canada can entertain, unless it's strategic to redirect consumption to comparable domestically sourced goods, which actually hits back at the US.

I work in the liquor industry and I am expecting a very interesting and annoying work life starting next week. I think this ridiculous situation Trump is creating will affect my specific situation quite significantly.
I think Pendleton Whiskey is amazing for the price! I recommend both the 1910 Rye and the original Canadian blend often and purchase. Those two are distilled in Canada but the company is American so I won’t buy either until Trump is gone.

It’s called an export tax or an export tariff…which are taxes paid by companies but that cost is in turn passed onto the importing company. Your point is very semantic.

Well, the US just skewered this economy. I guess it's up to Canada if they want to copy it.

I don’t think you understand the difference between importing and exporting. Let me guess, US public school system in an under funded district?
In any case the economy will continue on in the short term as change in action due to tariffs takes time. It isn’t a light switch that gets flipped, large scale change takes time and a lot of it.
