People aren't allowed to have opinions on a message board?
In theory our opinions have value to each of us and potential value to any discourse on the subject matter.
It's ok to disagree. It's ok to role play. It's ok to discuss. I mean, isn't that what this forum is for?
Limiting viewpoints to only those that have prevalent roles in the organization is an interesting take.

I definitely am one of the people who did not want to see Backlund get the 'C' and, numbers depending, was not too thrilled about extending him.
But, time and circumstances change opinions.
I didnt want him to have the 'C' on an expiring contract where we might have to deal him at the deadline.
Now that he's going to be here for 3 more years on a reasonable contract? I'm beyond happy that he has the 'C' and now we can move along to others.
But its still no secret...this team is rapidly acquiring too many 'Greybeards' for too much cash and term.

What's an actual insider?
What about the guy who has a friend that works for the Flames and they have a beer and the Flames guy says he thinks something is going to happen.
Guy goes home.
"man the folks on CP would sure love to hear this. He's been right before."
"nah ... I don't know it's a fact, and I'm not really on the inside, and I can't call my buddy out for where I'm getting the info. So nah ... I'll keep it to myself because the beat down gang will have my head"

My buddy and I were talking about this last night. I don't disagree with you but I what I told him was that I kind of feel like they're locked in with the long term contracts that Tre left them with. They sort of have to try and make it work for the next few years, and if/when it doesn't, maybe it's easier to move a Weeger or a Kadri then.
Not to mention what we suspect are Murray's Marching Orders.

Oh no, you're absolutely right, but we also dont need to keep digging by adding these ageing contracts.
Backlund is okay I think, Kadri...we might regret that one, and depending on circumstances we'll see what happens with the rest.
I tend to disregard the concept of 'Murray's Marching Orders.' I know we can infer and surmise but we really cant be sure.
Maybe its true, maybe its not, maybe its more complicated than that. I dont know.
Either way, I'm actually quite pleased that there is a high likelihood that Backlund retires as a Calgary Flame. His career was touch and go for a while there and then its like a switch clicked and he never looked back.

Did rasta-masta get a beat-down?
Making a post sharing inside info doesn’t draw criticism on CP. Especially if you have a track record of sharing legit info. But making dozens and dozens of posts - half of them winking GIFs - without any of the predictions coming true causes bull####-detectors to go off.

I think over time, there's a natural muting of people that bring forward rumours that may not come true.
To say these rumours were never valid is unfair ... but over the course of time we all start to assess these people as having info or not, don't we?
I just don't want the beat down crew to make it an unsafe place to share something from a solid source that could be right, but may not.
We all lose with that.
If you don't see the beat down crew as being wrong to hammer on these people, than it should be fine for me to call them out for doing so. Takes up the same space.

You guys binning someone calling out a pretender isn't exactly facilitating a natural muting. It's explicit approval.
Rasta survived the "beat down crew", most likely because it doesn't actually exist. When someone posts a bunch of BS on several occasions when is the point that people can say "nah, hold up" ?

I don't moderate the site.
Never have.
But sometimes a person needs to be held accountable for how they do things. His ass clown approach to things seem to have caught up with him.
And yeah the beat down crew exists ... we've seen the same characters for 6 weeks.

I’m just happy anyone posts anything. Real, made up, who cares. The days of a poster getting an inside info source vetted through the mods have been dead and gone for a long time now. Whether we got real insiders or Eklunds in the midst is irrelevant. What matters is it’s fun and I like fun. So have fun. Backland’s captain woo bring on the season!

I just saw this, but he hasn't put out a statement or anything but when the Athletic put out the article about his mental abuse of players they reached out to him and he texted them back and said good team missed playoffs lol brushed off the actual questions it looked like.

Imagine being so worked up over things that create discussion about hockey on a hockey forum.
Gotta police these folks. They're out of control I tell ya.
They might say something wrong!

If you can't see that the tone and style of the original posts in question were the problem, then I don't know what to say to you.
If you want to call guys out for being 'pretenders', knock yourself out, I guess. But no matter what you want to post about, there is a need for standards - this is a community after all.

This isn't really my fight but I don't really see a beatdown crew on CP. Outliers are just that for the most part.
I guess I don't mind if people draw attention to posters that seem to be more or less accurate than others with their "insider" takes simply because I'm not paying close enough attention. It helps me decide what is useful info or not.
People don't have to be jerks about it though.

There are no discernible standards of tone and style upheld on CP - personal attacks go unmoderated on this site every day. And if that’s the way Bingo and the mods want to run the site, then cool. But let’s not pretend this binning was about upholding some consistently-applied standards of discourse.
