Well, just like Treliving at the time, Conroy is new. he is going to get better, heck not saying it is a mistake, maybe NJ or other teams saw TT numbers as inflated, but hockey players make mistakes everyday. Let's get behind our new GM who wants to make the team younger and faster.

Not sure the duration of misery matters does it?
The point still stands ... there is a defendable reason to be down on recent or long term history, but that doesn't mean you need to fight to make recent news gloomy as well.
Not even saying you have to love this trade. You don't.
But maybe don't look so hard to not like it.

All Bingo is saying is: judge each event on its own merit. We don't need to hear what a terrible franchise the Flames have been, in EVERY SINGLE THREAD.

And wanting more is natural, all good.
I think the Reilly Smith return though pretty much puts to bed some of the things I read in the first few pages of this topic.
- Conroy got fleeced
- Conroy could have gotten more but for some reason didn't
- Conroy is over his head
And many others.

I think it likely changes people's feelings on the club. If you have found positives in the past 20 years you will not be nearly as close to the end of your rope as people who have seen felt it has been 20 years.
For this deal I actually feel the value is fine, just prefer that the Sharagonovich piece was a draft pick versus the player. I am concerned that it means we are trying to stay competitive which also gives me concern but not sure it is fair to judge the trade on that.

The thing about the Toffoli trade, now that the market has shaken out...it's not a bad bit of business.
Hall going for free should have been a bigger indicator for me, but now that things have played out the way they have - the market is the market, and Toffoli had requested a trade.
Toffoli's market value is pretty defined at "worth slightly more than Rielly"...and Conroy got more than that with an interestiing "what if...?" with Sharangovich.
Emotional as my reaction may have been, the market was taking shape and Conroy did what he could. I certainly didn't see the market's bottom falling out the way it has for wingers, and as a guy who believed Burke should have traded Cammy for a 3rd, I'm at peace with this deal because it's what the market dictated and we've seen that in other trades now.
It also really hammers home a lesson. Stay the !@#$ away from the trade deadline when it comes to being a buyer.

Honestly, not the trade I was expecting to see with the team's top scorer going the other way. I do understand that the market is what it is though, so that plays the ultimate factor in determining trade value. From the little I've seen though, it looks like Yegor has a nice shot, seems like he can score from distance, has some poise with the puck and a decent set of mitts. But man, does his skating need some work from both a quickness standpoint and mobility.
Away from the puck, I don't know how much is there either. He's not very tenacious, plays kind of small for his size and seems to shy away from battles. Obviously, need to see more than a handful of shifts, but based on the limited info, I'm a little underwhelmed. I guess it's a deep draft though and maybe a decent player will be had from the 3rd rounder and with the right linemates, maybe Sharangovich can pot 20 goals, but I get the sense that he's a lot more of a complimentary player than an impact player.
I think the team definitely got worse losing Toffoli, the co-MVP of the 22-23 season IMO. But the bigger by product might be Lindholm though, losing Toffoli has got to be the straw that broke the camel's back. In two off seasons, he's lost the 3 best wingersof his career. I suspect Lindholm and the rest of guys on the fence aren't going to be too happy seeing the team take this big step back in terms of competitiveness.

Honestly, I was going back and forth with some other posters, and while I do maintain my annoyance at the return, which may very well become mitigated by good play and growth from Sharanspellableovich, what irks me more is that the UFA class right now is piss poor and we're standing here with a pot of Gold.
Any team that wants to make some noise this season should be breaking Conroy's door down for Hanifin or Lindholm.
I worry that we're going to be the victims of the circumstances of a very soft market...just inopportune timing and Conroy's going to take an unfair brunt of the blame for it.
But further, we're fans, we look, we watch, we see but we dont know.
It makes us specialists at extrapolating conclusions from imperfect data, but those conclusions arent much different than SWAG.

All valid points. But if we want to be accurate, the Flames only real success in the past 30 years was a Cinderella run, lol.
And I agree the value is fine, but it seems like another wasted asset. It worries me that the Flames think getting younger is some kind of answer to their troubles, but you downgraded your team going from Toffoli to Shagagonovich most likely. So yes, you're younger, but you're also not as good. So what's the point if you're trying to win now? I just fear they will use Hanifin and Lindholm in similar deals where we get players back that just keep us status quo and we just pissed away their value trying to be a bubble team. It just seems like such wasted time and currency when you could be stock piling picks and trying to build for the future. Toffoli isn't really that big of a deal in the big picture though so I think Hanifin and Lindholm will be far more telling. Far more interested to see how those two are handled.

Yeah, I'm not even going to go down the comparison path with these two.
It may not be entirely his fault (although a good chunk of it is), but Treliving left an absolute mess here. In my eyes, Treliving goes down in the record books as just another "meh" General Manager for this organization. Happy that his era is behind us, and hoping this one with Conroy is better.

Don’t we have way too many LWs now?
If this guy is going to be given a chance he has
Huberdeau
Mangi
Pelletier
Not looking like Pelletier has a shot on the team this year?

They might give him a shot at centre, in particular if one or both of Lindholm/Backlund are gone.
I think I heard he could play RW as well. He will find a spot.
