I'm not deep in the weeds on this one...what would be the motive for the Buttons to shine a light on Katz here? Whether its true or not...how would it help them?

Claims Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz had an inappropriate relationship with a former ballerina were withdrawn because she was not a minor during her alleged interaction with him.
The California driver’s licence of Sage Nicole Humphries, sent to Sportsnet and verified by her attorney’s office, displays a birthdate of Oct. 3, 1997, which makes her 24. It also means she was 18 during her alleged interaction with Katz, who is now 61.
In Nevada District Court on Wednesday, Marc Randazza – the attorney representing Mitchell Taylor Button and Dusty Button, who are defendants in a sexual assault lawsuit brought forward by Humphries – filed a motion to strike all references in a counterclaim to a sexual assault lawsuit that Humphries was “underage,” “a minor” or “17,” after Randazza’s team was provided with “reliable information” about Humphries’ age.
In the filing, Randazza stated it was “highly unusual for a party to move to strike portions of its own pleadings,” but the law firm’s previous research that included a LexisNexis report, a Wikipedia page and Google search results all indicated Humphries’ birth year to be 1998 and not 1997. Randazza’s filing also indicated Humphries misrepresented her age.
In the motion, Randazza wrote, “It is simply unfair to accuse Mr. Katz … of having been involved with Sage Humphries when she was 17 years old if there is any reliable evidence to the contrary.”
Randazza also filed on Wednesday a “notice of voluntary dismissal” of their claims against Katz. Sportsnet has reviewed copies of both the motion and the notice.
"I want to personally apologize for any harm the erroneous factual claims may have caused to Mr. Katz and his family," Randazza wrote in an email to Sportsnet. "We brought the claims in good faith, but the moment I doubted the ability to maintain them, I took corrective action and asked the court to strike all relevant references from the record.
"Nobody should repeat those allegations in any context without noting that they have been withdrawn and repudiated."

Well what a relief that he's only a creepy gross person person that pays young girls for sex, but not minors.
I don't really know if I would put any weight into these accusations at all, at this point, considering the source and the lawyer (and the lawyers apparent incompetence on top of that).

I assume those texts were real though. Not proof that he had sex with her but pretty weird at the same time and while 18 is legal I wouldn't call it tasteful for a guy in his 50's. Not sure I would feel great about Murray Edwards if this story came out about him.
Okay, I hate to ask this this way, but as I've said before, I just cannot for the life of me understand why this happens... if you want to have sex with someone much younger than you, and you're obscenely rich, is it not really, really easy to just book a flight to Amsterdam (or probably a dozen other places) and pay far less than $75,000 to have that experience - likely a better one - with a professional, and significantly reduce any risk of it becoming a news story? Leaving aside whether Katz did this in this case or in other previous cases, why would anyone ever do it at all?
I mean, "old dudes think with their dicks" kind of ceases to be a viable explanation for this stuff when you can think with your dick all you like for far less money and far less risk.

You make it sound like the law or underage consent would be an issue for Daryl Katz.

I have no doubt this is not out of character or that he’s done whatever. I have zero respect for the guy.
My only point is that siding with the victim or just believing the victim means inadvertently having to believe Katz is probably innocent. Getting on the “Katz did this” train means you’re taking the side of two people accused of assaulting multiple underage girls. It’s just… gross, you know?
I honestly don’t care about Katz or how big of a scumbag he is. Just believing the victims, that’s all.
