Oilers and Canucks both trading long term pain for short term improvements while the Flames have largely stood pat. I personally think all three franchises are going nowhere but it will be interesting to see if any of them can put together a run before they hit the gutter.
I frankly don't think the Oilers have really improved when you look at the arrivals and departures. They may, in fact, be worse.
Garland improves the Canucks though. OEL I'm less convinced about.
Canadian teams doing Canadian team things I suppose.
Absolutely crushing it. New arena in Tempe in a few years and a fully stocked roster + sign Auston Matthews as a UFA and we’re golden!
Go have a cooler and settle down there big fella. The arena is no sure thing. Lots of conditions in the RFP that may not get anyone to submit a proposal for. Tempe is feeling things out right now, so I would not be getting overly excited. Citizens of Tempe will also have a say on this, and with the temperature of civic politics right now, this could get snuffed out quickly.

OEL is a bit of an enigma to me. I actually do think he can bounce back now that he's out of the mess that Arizona has been. That sort of thing is mentally and emotionally taxing and definitely can bring a player's ability to perform down.
Will he? Dunno. Canucks aren't exactly a seamless steam engine behind the scenes and even if they were it doesn't guarantee a damn thing.
I think the entire Coyotes fanbase is happy with the #### ton of picks they've acquired utilizing their cap space and going full rebuild with Wright/Bedard/Michkov coming up the next 2 years.
The Coyotes are rebuilding the absolute best way possible.
Want some extra salt to go with your salt?
Oh yes, I am so salty about a team intentionally tanking instead of competing. why would I be salty? The Yotes will still suck every year. But thanks for playing you have no idea what the hell you are talking about.
My god I was browsing this thread and had to log in because of this quote

Juolevi and Rathbone must be ecstatic. Sure glad the oversight and sage advice of the Sedins is paying huge dividends so quickly. They should have resigned the minute they heard this deal was in the works.
Bonus OEL comes with a full NMC for the rest of his contract. This is not a boat anchor. The Canucks just tried to leave the marina while still tied to the dock.
We've just committed $7 million/year for the next 6 years to a lazy, soft 3rd pairing defender.
This will make Loui Eriksson look like Alex Burrows.

Initial reaction - crappy, desperate GM trying to save his job and a terrible owner focussed on his near-term franchise value. Awful. Throwing my Canuck hats away

I mean if OEL's going to be playing on a team that's "not a toxic mess", I guess it mean he's not playing in Vancouver.

This sums up pretty much every Benning deal.

Not a good 7 years in Canuckland

That's a huge gamble by the Canucks on OEL. If he finds a way to get back to form that could be a very solid deal. I think VAN got better this year. I still think that OEL finishes his contract on LTIRetirment. At $7M he is still overpaid, but they did get out of some pretty bad deals.
He hasn't played at a high level since 2016. The gamble they took was insane here, but they appeared desperate to gain some cap space this offseason.

Considering 98% of people absolutely love this trade for Arizona as well as every other move they've made, I'm glad to know that all of us have no idea what the hell we're talking about.
Honestly, I still think you're just playing around and trolling with your posts because there's no way someone could actually type what you're posting with a straight face, but I'll still play along

And the Canucks aren't just a different mess?
At least I'm honest enough to admit the Flames are a mess as of currently. The Canucks did even worse though.
