Haha, so Vancouver had some leverage as well then. This is incredible.

They took on a few short-term bad contracts, added a really interesting player in Gostisbehere, retained $1m on the awful OEL deal they desperately needed to move, traded a guy in Garland who was at odds on a contract...

... And added a flat-out ridiculous number of draft picks.
They're out Krakening the Kraken. Or what the Kraken should be doing.

... Yes?

Giordano is still good. Oliver Ekman-Larsson is... not. And he costs more, for a longer period.

Also, the Canucks had a superior player in Toffoli, who they let walk, and then end up trading their first for Garland...horrible asset management.

Is that true? Probably not.
It might be. I would guess that it will be. How much improved? That remains to be seen.

That would be +8 in draft picks alone... in a couple day period... by one team... by Bingo's counting method.

Oilers and Canucks both trading long term pain for short term improvements while the Flames have largely stood pat. I personally think all three franchises are going nowhere but it will be interesting to see if any of them can put together a run before they hit the gutter.

Absolutely crushing it. New arena in Tempe in a few years and a fully stocked roster + sign Auston Matthews as a UFA and we’re golden!

Vancouver: Tanev, you are old at 30 and your $4.5Mx4 years contract ask is way too high, even though you are a stellar defensive Dman.

Also Vancouver: yes, 30 year old OEL, we wish to pay you $7M/y for 6 years despite the fact you are a really bad defenceman.

As Morgan has been reporting, doesn't look like Garland had any future in the desert with his current contract situation

If this happens I might have to start cheering for them. First you cripple Vancouver and then steal Toronto's golden child? Epic. Please happen.

EDIT: It just dawned on me. OEL is a left shot. Tyler Myers is a right shot. If they pair them together it could be the absolute worst value pairing in NHL history, ever. Like no one will ever top that.

They would literally have been better off just trading all of them with the 9th overall pick and getting nothing in return at all.

Seriously.

They can probably flip these guys on expiring contracts on the trade deadline to get even more draft picks.
