I too enjoy the hardest shot. Made even better with the slow mo capturing how much flex those sticks go through.
This may be a little too gimmicky but I think it’d Be a laugh to have watermelons, jello, or other strange things strewn about to see what kind of carnage those shots can do.
Simple prop comedy - might be fun for a team one-timer comp or something. It is in Florida next year; I'm sad to say I looked it up, but that is where Carrot Top comes from (because of course it is). Every player brings a target. Cycle through LHS, then RHS. Fastest team to break 5 targets wins?
Obviously the league would have to be heavily involved, if not simply script all of the items to keep everything in relatively good taste, but maybe they good be edgy enough to play to/against the home crowd a bit?
A priceless antique vase
Pinata
Cardboard cutout of someone relevant (a Tampa player could bring one of Luongo, I'm sure he'd be game, though he could act like he's aghast)
A bunch of balloons.
A blowup doll wearing the rival city's jersey?
Some sort of pyrotechnic
Some crazy Rube Goldberg machine with a simple bulls eye target as the starter (dunno what the end result is...mentos in Coke, etc.)
Various food items (watermelons, as you say)
A toilet
A skeleton
Stained glass window
Front loading washer/dryer (promo opportunity?)
Really anything that will make a mess or explode
The climax punchline seems pretty easy (especially back when they did the draft) - somebody drives out a car (promo opportunity)...somebody else with personality claims that it's their car. (All I remember from the first draft is how badly Ovechkin wanted to win the car by getting picked last).
Slo-mo Mythbusters camera. A little hokey, but it's for the kids, afterall.
Obviously safety would be a bit of an issue, helmets with visors hopefully sufficient?
IIRC goalies were complaining of sore groins after that.
Yeah I think the goalies didn't like it because of potential injuries. Simple solution would be to slow it down a bit and give the goalies a chance to reset.
The event really sucked. Hardest Shot and fastest skater okay, but after that just a whole lot of boring nothing. The womens game was hard to watch as it really is not good hockey and the ending competition was even worse. The announcers at the end selling the event as being so great (except for Freidman) was a complete joke.

You guys have to stop comparing womens hockey to mens hockey. Just support it as is.
People dont compare womens tennis to mens tennis and it's a lot slower. The top womans players couldn't beat a male high schooler. But nobody cares, just treat it differently as its own game.

Either get goalies in there stopping those pucks or get the dmen trying to block them. Hell,a forward and a dman fighting in front for position or a tip in would make it pretty interesting.
Hahaha. Are you nuts? Who would want to go to the allstar game to try and block 100mph shots?
Would only work if Oilers and Canucks were the shot blockers.

Oilers suck.
Skimmed the thread and didn't notice any comments on the new and 'improved' fox puck tail. Just as terrible graphic as the original. And who likes all the names played all over the screen. Not me.

I will not support it as it does not entertain me, and for it being pushed on us the way it currently is will just turn people off even more. We can't be told to like something or that we have to like something when it is far and away from top level talent and a top level game.

That was really hard to watch. Let me say that board ads changing while the play is on should be a non starter as well.
You are adding a tail to the puck because hockey is too hard for new people to follow, then draw their attention away from the play with changing boards

Although this is true, it's strange. I enjoy watching women's tennis a lot more than men's.

I covered this one earlier. Reason womens tennis is better is because it has rally's. Mens is mostly serving with little returns. I honestly don't think it was a good comparison by GS. Women's hockey on an entertainment level wasn't up to par, and I don't think there's a current business model to make it work. Now, if you're a fan of hockey and not a fan of the silly in-house intermission entertainment, I think there's an opportunity to have a women's game in between, but I don't know how the professional men would react to having less revenue in their pocket to pay the minor draw.
In my guide there's one feed All Stars Game and another All Star Stats Central. I'm curious if we're going to get to choose a separate feed that's overlayed with all the player/puck tracking stats.
