Wait, that's $4,500,000 per year?! I thought it might have been that over 3 years.
I'm joking but holy hell that would make more sense.

What’s your point?
Mikko Koskinen has won nothing with no one because he is a 30-year-old first-year NHL player who has won 16 games in his career.
With or without Turek’s Jennings the comparison is laughable.

That's just a horrible contract. No need to sign him this early and I'm not exactly sure why they decided to pay him starter money after less than a season's work with pretty middling numbers. Normally I would be elated when the Oilers make another critical mistake but Rittich's agent is going to use this contract in negotiations. I realize Treliving's not going to cut that deal but it may lead to the Flames paying more than they originally planned.

But no way he alone makes decisions like this for 3 more years when he's not sure when his last meal at Rogers Place is.
Bottom line, these moves have Lowe written all over them. I am sure the justification is to solidify the goalie situation which means they can now dump Talbot.
|
I tend to agree that Hitch, Lowe, MacT all have input on these moves which in a way is comforting because we know that the issues are far deeper than Chiarelli and when the new GM takes his place he will be working with the same braintrust that has run the franchise into the ground. This may be the best time ever to be a Flames fan.

So Talbot must be shipped out by the deadline. Nothing like forcing him to play on that team while knowing what they think of him.
I wonder if the fear really is that no amount of money is going to attract anybody to the team and therefore they are now overpaying and early on before other teams can compete.... it is the only possible explanation I have. Knowing everyone had to agree to the signing is amazing.
As for Rittich, if this sets the bar too high, you sign him to a 1 year deal for whatever the cap lets you sign him for, even if it is a significant overpayment. A show me you can do this back to back years. If he performs then you lock him up long term and if not, you saved yourself multiple years of overpaying for a average goalie. I figured the Oil would do something similar.

Good for Koskinen in three years he'll be back in Russia and the Oilers will be paying him a million and a half bonus for 4 more years on top of his KHL pay check.
This is like Viktor Fasth all over agan....but with a higher wage.

Willing to be traded anyhwhere. He probably already has his bags packed, praying that he gets moved to a team that plays defense so he can show he can still play. Otherwise his career could be in jeopardy
