Sure did on the Fan 960. He took a lot of heat for his Lack comments. He won’t repeat that even if he thinks it.

He has been in this situation before, and I am not the least bit surprised that he is reluctant to call out his goalies in the media now. Does anyone honestly pay that much attention to what coaches say in post-game media scrums? Most of it is PR with a little bit of gamesmanship, and all coaches handle it differently.

I wouldn't say he made many insane saves either...do people watch hockey? Every single game I watch the goalies make big saves. This is the NHL, should be the best goalies on the planet

Peters has to defend him and as pissed as we are at smith I’d be even angrier at peters if he didn’t defend smith

So I will call out the one poster. The Alpine Oracle should stop acting like a loser.
Most other comments were frustration at Smith but not calling him out as a person.

Haha, clearly you haven't been to the Blue Jays thread.

If he hadn't already gone off the deep end on Lack a couple of years back he might have lost it.

yeah, i think it was really just an unlucky situation: injury to Rittich, back to back games, Gillies not doing particularly well in the minors and Smith actually playing good the night before.
in this case, i think going with Smith was the right call, for those reasons.
But at this point, you simply can't give the other team freebies... those aren't goals that are earned, nor deserved by the other team and has got to be incredibly frustrating/deflating for the team to have to fight back, work so hard to get a goal, or to have your goalie gift the other team a soft goal....
Starting Smith is almost like spotting the opposition a goal and expecting the Flames to fight back every start.
it can't happen anymore. Points are too important with the Pacific tightening up like it is...

And even if he is a great teammate (none of us really know), that’s not what we are paying him for. Smith has done nothing for this franchise. We owe him
Nothing.

LOL, max level entitlement. Guess what? He doesn't owe you anything and he never did.

I know he's a terrible backup. But that's what I expect from him at this point. I wish we had a better backup but I'm not bitching about it like most on this forum.
|
Well a Calgary Flames post game thread about a game he blew seems to be the exact place to bitch about it
Yes I expect much more from an NHL goaltender, backups included.

Fair enough, and I'm not defending Smith or criticizing you for bitching about it. Like I said, it's just been a really annoying part of what has been an otherwise pretty enjoyable season.

The last time I checked, we are fans—all of us. The point stands: Mike Smith owes us nothing at all.

That is kinda the point, after decades of mediocre the Flames actually have a top team. Even the 04 team squeaked in.
One player is playing so poorly its holding the team back, sure they are in a decent spot but should be leading the division by a mile. Its frustrating that the people in charge always seem to be the last ones to realize.
Its like last year with GG...everyone knew he was a bad coach, shouldn't have taken until the off season to give the guy the axe.

Did I stutter?
He actually does owe us better, as fans, some of whom pay for tickets and cable and whatnot, yeah he does owe the entire franchise, fan base, etc.

Bottom line, for the sake of all Flames fans and more importantly for the team, I hope we get better backup goaltending. We probably deserved st least a point this game.
Jimmy Howard our best trade option right now?
