Maybe he goes down to play games on the 24th and 25th for Stockton while Rittich/Gillies get the Colorado game and then Lack jumps back up?

Wasn't Cowboys vs Eagles a few days ago? Didn't Lack get put on waivers today?
Seems silly to tell a guy to not hang out with the team or vice versa if they don't plan on executing the plan for a few days, almost a week.
The player doesn't know something is finalized until that day, maybe the night before.

Obviously they need a backup who can win games. The interesting thing is when Smith went down the first called up was Gillies. Did he look like he could win games right now in the NHL? Will Rittich?
Now Gillies' game was the debacle in Detroit so perhaps hard to get read on his readiness to win NHL games.
To me the Flames have marginally improved on their leakiness in the defensive zone the past few games but they are still not where they were last year. If the team can figure out the defensive zone then it's easier to call up someone from minors.
But as we've seen with Smith, the team needs elite goaltending to win games at their current level of types of chances they are giving up. In terms of solidifying the back up position today, they need a pretty damn good goalie.

Chiasson > Lazar, Brouwer, F. Hamilton, Glass, or Stajan
He wasn't a top-six forward. But he's better than any player on the Flames 4th line.

You got one player correctly, Freddie and Lazar didn't do much either, but that doesn't mean Chiasson is better than them. Glass is tougher than Chiasson, he can at least fight.

Yes but the player on the conditioning stint still counts towards the 23 man NHL roster limit. Someone needs to be sent down in either case.
Player also has to consent to conditioning stint. Not sure if Lack would decline, but it was hinted a few years ago Ortio refused a conditioning stint.
edit: there is an LTIR exemption for conditioning stint that allows players who are on LTIR to go on a conditioning stint without counting towards the roster limit, but obviously Lack doesn't qualify for it

As someone else mentioned - you do often see a team put a guy on waivers and then trade him. The other team wants the flexibility of being able to send him down and they also want to give up a junk contract of their own.

I'm taking my daughter to the Flames game on Saturday night versus the Avs and do not want to see Lack give up the game. We're sitting in the 6th row and it's 1 of 2 opportunities for us to watch the Flames in person, so we want a big WIN!

I feel like Lack's dad has been just as disappointing as Lack himself this season. We haven't even see him...

The post about still hanging out with the guys even though he's on waivers is hilarious. I would guess the guys like him very much and everyone understands this is just a part of the business.

Both Rittich and Giliies are improvements over Lack. I personally prefer Gillies and think he cannot be judged based on his relief of Lack in Detroit where Lack had already given up 5 goals and 2 of the goals he let in where on the 5 minute Detroit pp at the end of the game.
Also watching Chiasson play against us last week reminded me of why we don't need him. Yes he might be better than Stajan, Glass and Freddy Hamilton, I think Mangiapane, Hathaway, Lazar and several recent games Brouwer are all an improvement over Chiasson on the 4th line.
I also still believe in Bennett and do not want to see him traded like several on this website. At least one poster even stated we should trade him for a 2nd round draft choice which is ridiculous.

I think Rittich makes more sense to play as a backup in the NHL.
He's consistent and deserve a call-up.
I think Gillies is the better prospect (he is 2 years younger).
It would be nice if he could get as much playing time as possible in the AHL.

Like the vast majority of Flames fans I would prefer Lack to spend the rest of season in Stockton or preferably on our East Coast Team so Parsons can get better competition in Stockton. I have a strong feeling signing Lack was a favour/request from Gully to Treliving.
The Flames have had more than enough of Gullys previous players in Linden Vey, Glass, Lack and Bartkowski. Rumour is Grossman also was Gullys man. Freddie Hamilton now needs to be sent to Stockton with Mangiapane or Hathaway brought up to The Flames.
Versteeg needs to be taken off the pp and replaced by Stone. Stone shot from the right point will be dangerous.

Lack on waivers overdue it was a signing that never should have happened. Gulutzen keep your opinions of adding past Canuck and Star scrub players to yourself. Lack garbage, Glass garbage, Vey Garbage, Grossman Garbage.
