True. This move could be simply be for administrative reasons. If Lack clears waivers, it gives the team a little more flexibility to do deals.

I would rather have chiasson any day here as a 4th line RW over Brouwer and his heinous contract. He was productive for us and on a good value contract. He could also play on the PK. And doesn't hurt you defensively.

Gaudreau's Instagram story just included a smiling Lack with the team at the Cowboys v Eagles game....
If he was on his way out would he really still be at team events?

Lack looked amazing at the morning skate in DC.. surprised this happened now and not after he had a real bad game if it was a trade.
Probably a conditioning stint to get him some games.

Lack gets in a couple of games and you expect him to stand on his head, spit nickles and win. The guy wasn't given a chance. Hopefully he plays in Stockton and proves you all wrong. Some of the posts are amazingly ridiculous.

Eddie lacks talent but he was the nicest Flame my kids and I encountered at the Red Rally earlier this month.
Hope he finds an NHL gig elsewhere if his days are numbered in Calgary.

I think that its pretty strategic to try and sneak him through waivers on american thanksgiving as well. I don't think this is a move to dump him and move on. I think that a waiver cleared lack has slightly more trade value, or alternately, the plan is for him to go get some time in the AHL to find his rhythm.

I've been pretty vocal about Rittich deserving his shot. And many of you have pointed out I've been too impatient. I'll agree if Treliving calls Rittich up now, the Lack signing is brilliant to me. Rittich has established without a doubt he deserves a chance to play back-up. He has consistently outperformed Gillies despite getting half as many starts, and the fact he always plays second fiddle to Gillies has not hurt his performance. Lack was worth a shot with the salary retention, especially given that he can be buried in the minors at an AHL salary. If Rittich falters or Smith is injured, we have a vet to call up and hopefully Lack can find his game and his confidence again in the AHL. But the right call, the only call right now, has to be Rittich. I would be extremely disappointed with anything else.

He is still on the team while being on waivers.
After clearing waivers, he is waiver exempt for 30 days, which they can send him down. If the 30 days expire, he would have to clear waivers again.

They don't have to send him down. They can still keep him on the roster.

To clarify, if and when Lack clears Waivers.
The Flames don't have to reassign the player.
i.e. Freddie Hamilton cleared waivers and was not assigned to AHL.

Sorry, yes I mean they can keep him. They just have to officially send him down if that is the intent, which is a separate transaction.

Why would they keep him with the team or on the roster? Certainly Rittich and Gillies cannot be any worse then Lack has been so far. If they don't send him down, does his 1.3 million still count against the cap?

We don't know what the plan is. Most of the time, it is for the purpose of reassignment. The response above was just to explain why he is still with the team while on waivers.

That game was last week, unless it is the Cowboys/Chargers game today?

It is the Cowboys/Chargers game
Johnny is an Eagles fan (being from close to Philly) so he was joking around when he said "GO EAGLES"
