I'll give him credit, the Oilers "growing organically" while the Flames simply "adopted" another team is new. Never seen that before, it legitimately gave me a laugh.

oilers haven't won more than half of their games in a season since 1988!!

28 years!

No oiler fan should be signing up to a Flames message board unless it's to apologize for their team being an embarrassment to hockey and professional sports franchises everywhere.

"Growing Organically" and "adopted." Sounds like he might work as an intern at a startup tech company.

On our message board we spend little to zero time on the flames because honestly we don't care, you're irrelevant.

If being marginally better than the Oilers for the past decade is what floats your boat then great, take all the immature pot shots you want. But truth be told I think any self respecting flames fan can admit that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

The facts are that since 2005 the flames have won a grand total of ONE playoff series against the lowly Canucks and then were swiftly dispatched by the far superior Ducks. To put that in perspective, since 2005 the Oilers have won 3 playoff series. Despite a 10 year playoff drought the Oilers still have more playoff appearances than the flames and have directly ended your season four times.

There seems to be an underlying jealously/inferiority complex from flames fans against the Oilers whether subconscious or not. I would be jealous too if I had to play little sister to my big brother up north all these years.

Yes, it's typical for Oilers fans to "live in the 80's" and no I'm not going to flaunt our 5 cups to your measly 1, but that tradition is what makes me proud to be an Oiler fan despite the current struggles. If anything this recent stretch of ineptitude has shown just how great the Oiler faithful truly are. The Oilers have a mystique to them that the flames simply don't and never will.

I think there was jealousy when we got a team first and grew organically into the NHL as opposed to adopting a franchise from Atlanta. I think there was jealousy in the 80's/90's when we were the far better team and the greatest hockey dynasty in the modern era and there is jealousy today over #1 picks, the best player since Crosby, and a state of the art arena. Heck, even when we suck for years on end we still get more headlines than you.

We had some of the greatest players (including the greatest ever) to play the game in an Oiler jersey. When you watch the HNIC intro what's the predominate shot? It's not Lanny "Sammity Sam" McDonald..it's Wayne Gretzky in an Oiler jersey lifting the Cup. And he still helps us today courting free agents like Schultz (who didn't work out so well granted) and Lucic. Who wouldn't want the best player in the history of their sport (ie. Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky, etc.) waving your flag?

I do appreciate some of your players and think guys like Gaudreau, Monohan, Giordano, Brodie and Tkachuk are very nice pieces but personally if I were to choose between the two rosters to win a Stanely Cup in the near furture. I would take the likes of McDavid, Eberle, RNH, Lucic, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi, Klefbom, Sekera, Nurse and Talbot in a heart beat.

The last 8 years have probably been the worst this franchise has seen, so I get it flames fans get your shots in while you can but really have fun chasing the playoffs every year just like the Iggy days, scraping for a playoff spot while we're starting The Dynasty 2.0.

Also I think I articulated my opinion in a thoughtful and respectful way, comparatively to what's been said in this thread. So mods if you feel inclined to ban me for simply not being a flames fan then please go ahead.

And one last thing, since people want to liken Rogers place to a golf club head or a sperm, may I kindly remind you that your old run down arena is literally in the shape of an object that cowboys rest their nuts on.
This may be the most incomprehensible soliloquy I've ever read, and I'm including Shakespeare in there.

Let me get this straight: you joined a FLAMES forum to brag about the OILERS using cherrypicked stats?

Tell me... are you familiar with Greek Mythology?

I needed a new sig.

I could have picked any excerpt from that marvellous post (seriously, who is "Sammity Sam"?) but this one seemed to be the most poignant.

I cant believe people are thanking that post. There's no obsession, the oilers bring ridicule entirely upon themselves. Just watch the MacTavish press conference, there's more laughs there than most stand-up sets. They are completely deserving of three, soon to be four threads of mockery.

Also, simple math tells me the flames have more playoff appearances, with one less season in the NHL. Typical oiler fan, can only count to five.

Well done. Covered pretty well all the stereotypical Oiler fan responses in one post (focusing on the 80's Oilers teams, mystique, dynasty, jealousy over number 1 picks, etc) while conveniently omitting that the last decade of futility has reached historic levels. As high as the organization was in the 80's it's sunk to depths that no other NHL team has. All alone as the worst organization in the history of the NHL and you have the nerve to say the Flames have been "marginally better" over the last decade. Respectful? Somewhat. Thoughtful? Absolutely not.

The truth is that since both teams came to Alberta the Flames have a better win percentage as a franchise and also own the series between the teams. You have the 5 cups in the past but that's all you have as everything else points to the Flames being the superior franchise.

Another thing that Oilers fans need to realize when addressing fans of other organizations is that outside of Edmonton the rest of North America has moved on from 30 years ago. Nobody talks about the Maple Leafs today and discusses their 13 Stanley Cups. When we think of the Leafs we think of the Harold Ballard years and futility that has ensued up to now. Whether you believe it or not when fans of other teams discuss the Oilers they are thinking only about the Kevin Lowe years and following decade of historic futility that even tops the Leafs. This thread's existence has more to do with Flames fans marveling at the history that has been created up north than is has to do with any inferiority complex as most of us will never, ever see anything like this again in our lifetimes. I can see myself talking to my grandson one day in the future;

Grandson; "Grandpa can you believe those stupid Canucks are picking first overall two years in a row!"

Me: "Well young fella, that's nothing compared to the Oilers who managed to pick 1st overall three years in a row an four times in six years."

Grandson:"No way! How could a team be that bad?"

Me: "Well it's a long story and I must warn you its full of details that are all no good."

This is how the Oilers are discussed in the present and future as the memory of those 80's cups have long faded. The Oilers are now entrenched in history as the worst organization in the history of the NHL and possibly professional sports. It matters not to us if you choose to be oblivious to the truth because the facts speak for themselves.

I know it's been a decade and your memory might be a little clouded but you do realize that in order to win a Stanley Cup, you need to actually make the playoffs right?

How many times have we heard this?

Here, let's try...

Personally, if I were to choose between the two rosters to win a Stanley Cup in the near future, I would take the likes of Gagner, Cogliano, Schremp, Paajarvi, Gilbert, Smid and Dubnyk in a heart beat.

Let's try again...

Personally, if I were to choose between the two rosters to win a Stanley Cup in the near future, I would take the likes of Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakapov, Schultz (he left that dump to win a cup elsewhere), Petry and Fasth in a heart beat.

Nope, scratch that. Well third time's a charm I guess.

This thread has nothing to do with our "inferiority complex". It's the simple fact that after four first overall picks (3 in a row) and countless other top 10 picks, your team is still a dumpster fire and has been the worst franchise in all of sports the past decade. At least us "Flamer" fans have seen our team play in the playoffs in HD while tweeting about it.

We are so irrelevant to you yet every Summer, you clowns sign up to tell us how great your team is and then disappear once the calendar hits December.

Oh and New Rink, Same Stink gets my vote! See you next Summer.

And one last thing, since people want to liken Rogers place to a golf club head or a sperm, may I kindly remind you that your old run down arena is literally in the shape of an object that cowboys rest their nuts on.
