Yes, I'm an Oilers fan and a proud one at that. I'm not going to slink around here like some idiots and pretend to be a flamer. I do like Calgarypuck and think it's a good forum but your obsession with the Oilers is embarrassing to be honest. On our message board we spend little to zero time on the flames because honestly we don't care, you're irrelevant.
If being marginally better than the Oilers for the past decade is what floats your boat then great, take all the immature pot shots you want. But truth be told I think any self respecting flames fan can admit that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
The facts are that since 2005 the flames have won a grand total of ONE playoff series against the lowly Canucks and then were swiftly dispatched by the far superior Ducks. To put that in perspective, since 2005 the Oilers have won 3 playoff series. Despite a 10 year playoff drought the Oilers still have more playoff appearances than the flames and have directly ended your season four times.
There seems to be an underlying jealously/inferiority complex from flames fans against the Oilers whether subconscious or not. I would be jealous too if I had to play little sister to my big brother up north all these years.
Yes, it's typical for Oilers fans to "live in the 80's" and no I'm not going to flaunt our 5 cups to your measly 1, but that tradition is what makes me proud to be an Oiler fan despite the current struggles. If anything this recent stretch of ineptitude has shown just how great the Oiler faithful truly are. The Oilers have a mystique to them that the flames simply don't and never will.
I think there was jealousy when we got a team first and grew organically into the NHL as opposed to adopting a franchise from Atlanta. I think there was jealousy in the 80's/90's when we were the far better team and the greatest hockey dynasty in the modern era and there is jealousy today over #1 picks, the best player since Crosby, and a state of the art arena. Heck, even when we suck for years on end we still get more headlines than you.
We had some of the greatest players (including the greatest ever) to play the game in an Oiler jersey. When you watch the HNIC intro what's the predominate shot? It's not Lanny "Sammity Sam" McDonald..it's Wayne Gretzky in an Oiler jersey lifting the Cup. And he still helps us today courting free agents like Schultz (who didn't work out so well granted) and Lucic. Who wouldn't want the best player in the history of their sport (ie. Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky, etc.) waving your flag?
I do appreciate some of your players and think guys like Gaudreau, Monohan, Giordano, Brodie and Tkachuk are very nice pieces but personally if I were to choose between the two rosters to win a Stanely Cup in the near furture. I would take the likes of McDavid, Eberle, RNH, Lucic, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi, Klefbom, Sekera, Nurse and Talbot in a heart beat.
The last 8 years have probably been the worst this franchise has seen, so I get it flames fans get your shots in while you can but really have fun chasing the playoffs every year just like the Iggy days, scraping for a playoff spot while we're starting The Dynasty 2.0.
Also I think I articulated my opinion in a thoughtful and respectful way, comparatively to what's been said in this thread. So mods if you feel inclined to ban me for simply not being a flames fan then please go ahead.
And one last thing, since people want to liken Rogers place to a golf club head or a sperm, may I kindly remind you that your old run down arena is literally in the shape of an object that cowboys rest their nuts on.

Alright I'll bite.
You make note of the fact the Flames have been marginally better than the Oilers over the past ten years... Did you forget you guys drafted first overall four out of six years prior to this season? That is seriously the worst run in any professional league I have ever seen. That's worse than the Cleveland Browns. Four first overall draft picks and you guys continue to finish bottom three. But this is the year right?
You mention how you'd rather have your special crop of players up in Edmonton, but fail to mention a single top pairing d-man on your list. What has plagued the Oilers for the past ten seasons more than anything? Anybody who has half a clue about hockey would say your lack of talent on the back end. You don't even mention the guy you just traded your supposed "top 5 LW'er in the game" Hallsy for. And of course you throw in the obligatory "dynasty 2.0 yada yada yada" which again is hilarious in itself as we've been hearing this for the past six or seven years every off season, only to watch you guys crash and burn by Christmas every time.
Don't even pretend it was Gretzky and the "mystique" of Edmonton that lured Lucic into signing with your precious Oilers. It could have been the chance to play with McDavid, I'll give you that, but more than anything I'm pretty sure it was the fact your idiot GM handed a declining asset a $42,000,000 deal over the next seven years. Have fun with that one in a couple of seasons.
Last but certainly not least, nobody on Calgarypuck is going to ban you for being the fan of another team, this isn't HF Oilers.

A look back at the last time the Oilers played a playoff game:
The playstation 2 was Sony's newest video game console
Hannah Montana was still a thing
Disney was still releasing movies on VHS
HD-DVD was a brand new technology
Razr phones were still cool
smoking rooms in restaurants and bars still existed
George Bush was the US president...still early in his 2nd term
many Kids who are entering the 5th grade have never seen the Oilers in a playoff game. Kids entering high school likely do not remember the Oilers ever being in a playoff game.
Still no good.

lol.. THIS is why we make fun of the Oilers. Could you have been more deluded and stereotypical in one post? Yikes.
The part that you (and the legion of those like you) don't seem to comprehend is that people don't mock and make light of the Oilers and their fans for being bad.
They are an entirely different level of bad. The level of futility that has gone on in Edmonton diving deeper and deeper into enduring failure despite years of first overall picks is unparalleled in all of sports, and takes ineptitude to somewhere it's likely never been in all of sporting history.
And all while the embarrassing product on the ice got worse and worse with each passing year and failed re-build, we had to listen to guys like you with their e-chest beating telling us success was guaranteed and just around the corner.
Edmonton is so bad at this point, that anyone who's a fan should either have given up and stopped supporting, or should be quiet as a mouse until there is anything remotely resembling success.
You said a whole lot of nothing, and with one post proved how spiteful and upset you are at a near decade of historic ineptitude.
Bravo.
And hey, it's the summer. It's Oiler season. For your next trick, please tell us more about how things are going to be different by September. If you've come here to go Oiler on us, you might as well go full Oiler.

First of all, welcome to CP 1CupChuck. I love Oilers fans on CP. Especially draft day thru to November. Don't tend to hear much from them during winter and spring.
Winning% wise, the last 8 years have been the worst the Oilers have seen. Because it's the worst winning% any team has ever put up in any 8 year period. It's actually impressive.

Funny how you go back 11 years just after the flames own magical run where they had 3 playoff wins
If you really want real perspective after this coming season you not only won't have any playoff wins you won't have a playoff appearance in 10 years and have averaged the 27th worst team over that span...this isn't just bad, it's epic failure and the worst in pro sports, even the Cleveland Browns made their fans smile more!
Now try looking at how many more times flames fans smiled over the 11 seasons you say we were "marginally better"
Head to head:
Flames 49 wins
Oilers 28 wins
21 more times you went to bed in a bad mood over the last 11 seasons than we did. perspective!

I don't even need a calendar anymore. I can tell the seasons by the types of Oiler fan posts that show up around here.
I especially loved the whole "I wouldn't trade the Oilers roster for Calgary's". Mentions of a new dynasty right around the corner (this time for sure! presto!). "The Oilers have a mystique to them that the Flames never will"...I mean, wow. Seriously? I swear to god this is Kevin Lowe incognito.
You get more media coverage at this point because you keep drafting high profile players and going nowhere. Hell, we've had to instill lottery changes simply due to your team's ineptness. And it isn't just a rough stretch, it's historically bad. We're talking worst of all time sort of bad. Yet time after time we get this attitude of self-importance that Oiler fans have because of "that one time Gretzky was on our team". You seriously think that's why you get UFAs now? Well then you really are stuck in the 80s. All the good that happened then has been erased by the last decade, and as of right now, the Oilers have a lot to prove to even be in the conversation of relevant franchises.
You see that's the problem. You never wait until you prove it on the ice before running around talking about how great the team is will be next year and for years to come when they become the next dynasty. It wouldn't be so bad if you actually had some mediocre results to back up your excitement, since all fans overestimate their team's chances to some degree. But the Oilers are so bad, and have been so bad for so long, that there's literally nothing to back up your hopes/expectations/claims for Oiler success any time soon. It's not the rivalry that creates these threads mocking the Oilers, it's really the buffoonery of a franchise that has become the greatest comedy source in the NHL (although Dim Jim Benning is starting to give you guys a run for your money). I think if it were any other franchise in the NHL, we'd still be doing this, but probably to a lesser degree.
So if you think it's some sort of inferiority complex, you're dead wrong. It's just that you guys are so damn funny, time and time again. We've tried to focus on other things, but you guys keep writing the funniest script ever, and it's hard to ignore. But if you don't want to be made fun of anymore, there's a little something you can do called "winning" that will make the jokes stop.

This has got to be the best butt hurt post of all time. The fact you signed up and wrote this post on a Flames message board is just wonderful.
You say Oiler fans don't talk about the Flames because we are irrelevant but the irony is you guys always sign up to this board in July and August telling us how great your team is and every year by November disappear into thin air.

It's so beautiful. Sad though that there's an underlying tone that describes the rivalry as dead. Maybe Looch can teach them the culture of hating, like the one he experienced between Boston and the Canadiens.
Maybe we should frame this in ENG4.
