It is a joke for sure. I really think the NHL or even sports writers and broadcasters should make picks from each team and then let the fans vote. It keeps the teams from having to pick and we are assured that only players deserving will be voted in.

They should pick this team via the Goblet of Fire, but knowing our luck that damn Harry Potter would be picked to participate.

Some of you guys are taking this entirely too seriously.

By all means like it, but when people start talking about the "reputation" of the All Star game, it's obvious that some are taking it way more seriously than even the players do.

You know, I was actually interested in watching this year's All-Star Game. The idea of a 3-on-3 mini-tournament involving NHL stars was an interesting one. Now that one team is going to be saddled with a player that can't even stick in the NHL, let alone play 3-on-3, I'm no longer interested. So thanks, trolls. You wrecked an interesting experiment for the sake of a stale joke.

Can Brodie beat out one of Doughty, OEL or Burns and head to the all star game?

Should we tell Jay Random that there are 39 other players going, or just let him ride his high horse a while longer?
Edit: FWIW, John Scott playing is about the only reason why I would tune in to this, so if the trolls cost the NHL a viewer in Jay Random, the trolls also gained them one.

Should we tell Resolute 14 that it's a team sport, and arbitrarily giving one team 10 percent fewer players than the other three is a significant handicap and unsportsmanlike in the extreme?

Yeah, well, you said you voted for John Scott, so you're one of the trolls. And like a troll, you clearly don't care about anybody else's enjoyment of the event. Go enjoy your lulz, because that's all that you've got left.

This is hilarious, but it goes to show that with enough exposure, a dedicated minority anyting can happen - just look at Trump in the States. If there was any kind of vetting done before the process started he'd be in the asylum already
I think its a good testament to how the internet works, the CP Jihads are pretty much the same thing.

Scott will probably be the only player who actually gives a damn when he's on the ice. He'll park himself in front of the net while Johnny skates around and no defenceman is going to care enough to try to move him.
Scott, if he does go, will score a pile of goals in this. They might all be bouncing off of him by accident, but he'll score a pile.

I doubt it. More likely he'll be constantly behind the play and a total liability for his team.

If John Scott in the all-star game has you this upset, then you are simply too sensitive to enjoy anything Jay, so I can't say I'm too worried about your feels.
Also, don't be a hypocrite. As I've said, my enjoyment of the event will be enhanced if Scott goes. But you're sitting there whining without any care of "anybody else's enjoyment of the event" yourself. Rather, you're trying to make it all about yourself.

Having a guy like Scott on a team of 6 forwards, playing 3 on 3, pretty much assures the Pacific all-stars don't win their game against the Central.

Pretty much the dumbest thing I've heard. But I guess the NHL asked for it when they open it up to fans. Game is a joke yes, but this is straight up trolling. Can't believe the NHL would honor it.

Nah, that's how it used to work when there was a set ballot and a physical ballot.
Said ballots were printed in late October for distribution around the league to the arenas. So, there'd be the usual set of NHL-approved guys on there based on name and/or what they did last year, no matter how poorly that they'd be playing (or playing at all).
For example in that scenario, guaranteed that 1-goal (up to a week ago) Getzlaf would be on the ballot. Injured Price too. Gio from the Flames after a below average start. Probably Hudler too based on last year's performance. And they'd all get lots of votes just because the name is there and without much other choice. IIRC you could write in up to two candidates, but who is going to be bothering to do that at the Flames game with a golf pencil?
Don't really care the format, or preserving the history of the game. In this day and age, players don't want to get injured, nor do their teams. The negotiated CBA more or less states that there has to be a league wide break, and there are also player bonuses based on being named to an all star game, and I wouldn't be surprised if the NHL promises/has promised all star games to certain markets/as part of new arena deals...so the league can't just scrap it.
So, they have to try and make something out of the weekend, and if that means leaving/deflecting things into the hands of general public, then so be it.

I'm actually surprised the NHL honoured it. There are many that believe the NHL straight up rigged the final result in the the Rory Fitzgerald campaign. I was expecting them to do the same here.
