The Flames dominated the Jets in both games they played this season. I hardly think the substitution of Myers for Bogosian and the addition of Stafford puts the Jets anywhere ahead of them. They might be a little better today than yesterday, but still will be fighting tooth and nail for one of those wild cards.

The fact that this is what you took from that post just proves that you aren't looking at this objectively.

Pause, take a look at what I posted, and how you responded, and tell me who overreacted.

If we're battling for WC2, then the Jets are competition. Especially given the roll Minnesota is on.

Fortunately, the Jets are only marginally improved. Stafford fills a hole, but he isn't enough to make a critical difference, imo.

For both teams, this deal is more about the future than the present.

I think Ashasx was more commenting on the the media members praising the tank, vs the actual tank itself.

I agree it's ridiculously annoying when members of the media praise teams for trying to get themselves to the bottom. It's surprising they still do with how stupid Edmonton has made them look. But there will always be people who think this way.

Armia (Baertschi)
Lemeuix (Hunter Smith)
2015 2nd round or another middling prospect

For

Evander Kane (4th overall pick)

I would do that trade every day of the week. I would have flown to Adirondack and drove those players to Buffalo myself.

I was wondering if Kane's game will improve playing back in the East, but I'm not sure there's the drastic disparity in size between Western and Eastern teams like there once was. Does anyone have any stats on relative size between the conferences?

The Jets won big time. Myers and Buff? That has to be the biggest D pairing in the league.

An argument could be made for either side.

The trade boils down to BUF giving up 3 guys who could be impact players in Lemieux, Armia, and the 2015 late 1st, for a guy who could be a ppg power forward.

A lot of people will argue the former has the greater value... I'll take the latter.

You were the one using hyperbole like "it sickens me" to describe a trade as if Murray was trying to sabotage his roster, when the only thing he took off of it was an underwhelming winger who is a pending UFA.

Then, ironically, you overreacted to my use of the word "overreacted" when I pointed that out.

Not sure if they're still a pairing or not, but Chara and Hamilton played together a lot last year. That is two really big guys.

And I doubt Myers plays with Byfuglien anyways. Myers is probably 2nd pairing in Winnipeg.

Whew, was worried that with some of the rumour mill going he might end up in Calgary.

Out of the conference sounds good to me!

Drew Stafford is a UFA.

Bogosian for Myers is a wash.

I would say it is. They basically traded equal d-men and have no Stafford replacement.

I think it's pretty brutal for the rebuilding Sabres to lose Armia, Lemieux and a 1st round pick in this deal. Armia and Lemieux are going to be thorns in our sides for the next few years. They strike me as players with great competitive attitudes. Size, grit and talent. ####.

Myers for Bogosian is a wash, as neither has really reached their potential. Myers, in the right system, could be unstoppable in a couple of years. I like Bogosian but the Jets have a tonne of depth on D. Stafford will contribute more than Kane would for the remainder of the season. Unsigned goalie prospect isn't a huge factor tipping the scales.

Obviously the Wild Card here is Kane. Is he going to enjoy Buffalo any more than Winnipeg? Buffalo is the Winnipeg of NY State. How is he going to enjoy perpetually sucking for the foreseeable future? Do Buffalo really want this guy's prima donna attitude around Sam Reinhart and McDavid/Eichel?

I maintain this is a terrible deal for Buffalo.

If you are an optimist, Kane is a PPG power forward that has yet to reach his peak and has a whole career left in Buffalo.

If you are a pessimist, then he is a 40-50 point injury prone cancer that may walk in 3 years.

I'm more of a pessimist on this trade for Buffalo.

He's on IR, I doubt he'll play again this season.

I'd say the chances of that happening are about as likely as Backlund leaving for Russia after this season.
