Considering that he was in the ECHL at the end of last season, the fact that he lasted this long in camp is a positive. Ramage's next step should be to establish himself in the AHL first before even thinking about the NHL.
This is hardly a tough blow, and hardly the end of him in Calgary.

surprised knight/arnold still here. Didn't think they did much to push for a spot.
maybe here to fill in the roster a bit, as they don't want the shoe-ins playing in all remaining preseason games.

Ramage stepped up his game for sure. He'll probably need to improve some more to make the NHL, but he's definitely better than he was.

seriously? this is the kid 2nd season. He struggled last season at Abby then got sent to Alaska. This year's training camp he is much better and I think he will stay in the AHL the full season and not get sent down to ECHL. I like this guy and he'll have a future with the Flames if he keeps improving. I'll send in 2 seasons but I think he'll be one of the call-ups this season.

Clearly none of those 3 have any sort of chance at starting with the big team. Might as well get them acclimatized to Addy as soon as possible.

I don't mind if they just keep Knight around for a couple weeks to mentor Bennett and Monahan at taking face offs.

There are going to be limited spots available which means he's got to shine fast. You're likely going to see Acolatse, Kulak, Sieloff and Wotherspoon sent down, and then one of Brooknank or Yonkman join them. You then have Potter or Diaz as the 7th defenseman, and if Diaz earns the spot, Potter goes to the farm. Ramage is just getting caught in a numbers game, which could make him resigning with the Flames a tough sell. I'm a huge Ramage fan, and love what he brings to the game, but he's caught in a tough spot numbers wise.

So here's who's left:
Forwards (23):
Raymond (injured)
Monahan
Hudler
Gaudreau
Backlund (injured)
Colborne
Glencross
Stajan
Jones (injured)
Bollig
Bouma
McGrattan
Byron
Setoguchi
Bennett
Baertschi
Reinhart
Ferland
Granlund (injured)
Knight
Poirier (injured)
Klimchuk (injured)
Arnold
Elson
Jooris
Defence (14):
Giordano
Brodie
Smid
Wideman
Russell
Engelland
Brookbank (try-out)
Diaz (try-out)
Yonkman (try-out)
Wotherspoon (injured)
Potter (injured)
Kulak
Sieloff
Cundari
Culkin
Ramage
Acolatse
Goalies (3)
Hiller
Ramo
Ortio
No surprising cuts today, nothing higher than "in the red" on my list anyways. The defensive battle is shaking out to be interesting. Acolatse still being here confuses me. Can't imagine why they wouldn't put him through waivers since Cundari was put on waivers as well today. Seems like he's not going to be here, but he's sticking around. Yonkman will either be released outright (possible), or given an AHL deal (probable due to the lack of big physical defenders on the farm). Sieloff was impressive last night, but he has a lot of catching up to do. He'll probably be one of the final cuts. I think it still comes down to Diaz or Brookbank for the 7th d-man spot, with the other being released from the tryout unless they accept an AHL deal.
Ferland cemented his orange status with me last night. I think he might have even more chance than Gaudreau or Bennett as of now because of Hartley's comments. Seems like he'll be down to one of the last cuts unless he mails it in the rest of the way. I also upgraded Jooris to a "red" since he's done so well throughout pre-season and the rookie tournament. He's probably not going to be on the opening day roster, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was called up for an injury replacement at some point this year. Heck, with all the injuries piling up he might even be an injury replacement to start the year. Jones, Setoguchi, Gaudreau, Bennett, Ferland all have an opportunity to stay with the club to start the year at this point. We'll see what happens when guys get healthy. Bennett's an easier choice because he can go back to junior after 9 games, or when the regulars get healthy, whichever comes first. I think he sticks for at least his 9 games at this point.

If everyone was healthy, I would guess 9 of Arnold, Baertschi, Bennett, Ferland, Gaudreau, Granlund, Jooris, Klimchuk, Knight and Reinhart are cut?
That would leave the vets from last year, vet pickups, and Byron as locks from what I can see.
Of the 10 fringe, I see Arnold, Klimchuk and Knight as definite cuts.
At this point I'm guessing Sven sticks around, and maybe another of Reinhart / Ferland / Gaudreau based on injury situation?

Completely agree. He just needs to go down and be the best guy on the ice. I hope he does!

I'm thinking that Baertschi and Ferland will end up being the two that end up making it with the rest getting sent down.

I agree with this as well, but with Raymond, Backlund, and Jones all on the shelf there's room for a couple more guys. I think Bennett stays until everyone is healthy or his 9 games are up, and I think Gaudreau stays (I would say Granlund if he weren't injured, so hopefully he shakes off the concussion soon).

If you go with the one way contracts (and last years rookies) it looks like this:
Raymond-Backlund-Colborne
Glencross-Stajan-Jones
Byron-Monahan-Hudler
Bollig- Bouma- Mcgrattan
Setoguchi
Guys on the bubble: Ferland, Baertschi, Gaudreau, Granlund, Bennett, Baertschi, Reinhart, Arnold, Knight, Jooris
I would bet the only change is one of Setoguchi or Jones is sent to the AHL and one of Ferland or Baertschi takes his spot. Plus you get a second young guy since at least one player will be injured to start the year.

Yes, but I found it easier to look at the roster without trying to divine length of injuries, additional injuries, etc...
I apologize for taking a larger view of the situation rather than making concessions for each injury.
