I am not the biggest Kevin Glenn fan either, but he has played well the last two season. He does hold on to the ball a little too long and get sacked at the wrong times, but I think he should finish off the season, and win us a Grey Cup this year.
This is our best chance to win the title in a long time, and we better take care of business and win the damn thing this year.

If the Stamps can get healthy here in the last few weeks of the season they will be a force in the playoffs.
Lots of guys coming back to practice. Getting Tsoumpas and hopefully Joe west back in a couple weeks that would be huge.
Who knows, maybe Nik Lewis suits up for the Grey Cup game if we make it there. Would be a huge morale boost more than anything.

At this point, down 5 with a minute left on the clock in a must-win game, I'd bring in BLM.
And while I'm okay with Glenn starting the rest of the way for the Stampeders, I don't see how Huff outright confirming this will make Glenn play better. It will 'free him up to explode down the stretch', as Dunigan says? Some guys play better knowing their the #1. Some guys play better with competition. Based on what we've seen the last couple years, the stiff competition and needing to prove himself against a couple young 'uns every week is part of the reason he's playing so well right now. You help this team win, you keep your job.

I am sure Kevin Glenn learned from that mistake(time management). I am also Huf or DD already pointed that out to him. You know I might agree with you on Glenn not a great closer a few seasons ago but I think he's done well especially this season. As far the stiff competition scenario... Glenn knows that if he suck during the game Huf will not hesitate pulling him off and replace him with Drew Tate or Bo Levi. Glenn have chemistry with Jon Cornish, Mo Price and Marquay McDaniel. Not so sure I can say the same thing about Tate because he only played 5-6 games the last two seasons.

I wonder if they're playing Glenn because he's playing pretty well, but they have no intention of protecting him in the draft and they want to have BLM as an unknown quantity that they hope Ottawa won't want to take a flyer on if they choose not to protect him.
It'd be a risky play in terms of finishing out this season, and I suspect that whichever of Tate or BLM is not protected will be a no-brainer pick for Ottawa, but who knows?

I think they should be protecting BLM either way. He is most likely to be picked up by Ottawa. Tate is somewhat injury prone and Glenn is an older free agent after this season. They might like him but would probably take someone like one of the other backup qbs in BC, Tor, or Sask. BLM would be a no-brainer for Ottawa, so protect him

Glenn is a UFA...they cant protect him.
Tate is an injury so doubtful Ottawa would pick him and if they did would be doing us a favor.
BLM is the protected QB.

Ottawa takes either of Toronto or BC backups I think...depends on trades as well.
Stamps could get pooched and lose two QBs if Glenn signs elsewhere and we lose Tate to Ottawa.

Yeah....I would be stunned if Collaros isnt traded to Winnipeg before the expansion draft. Dimarco im not so sure about, but he may get traded as well to Hamilton.
Burris just doesnt seem to have Austins trust...so maybe Dimarco goes there.
Burris and Glenn both ufa's after this season.
I think Glenn returns to Calgary unless Ottawa promises him the starter job.
So then it would probably shake out as Burris and Tate or Willy to Ottawa (the irony) with Glenn returning to compete with BLM for the starting gig here.

I'm curious if Ottawa would use one of their non-QB picks to grab Sinopoli with the intent of evaluating him for the QB position. Scares me a bit that Ottawa can pick him as a QB, but still prevent us from protecting additional players because he isn't a QB.

If Ottawa picked Sinopoli as a QB they would be idiots. He is simply not good enough. I could see them taking him as a receiver though...my gut says the Stamps protect him...he is better than Forzani.

Why would Kent Austin want Thomas DeMarco when he has his own young QB who he is very high on in Dan LeFevour? And Thomas DeMarco isn't exactly lighting up the world the last few weeks as he has looked downright awful at times.

There is also Matt Nichols in Edmonton who could be favored...he is at least as good as DeMarco...injury aside.
so who do they pick? DeMarco, Nichols, Tate, Willy, *Collaros, Marsh or Nieswander...maybe LeFevour?
Have to think ranking is Collaros, Tate, DeMarco...crapshoot.

I'm not sold on DeMarco as a starter in this league. He has a nice arm, but I don't see more than a backup in him. I'm sure he'll get a shot though -- if this year has proven anything, it's the importance of QB depth.

I'm not sure if this is news anymore cause he always seems to be a Player of the Week, but Cornish and Hughes both win this week:
http://www.cfl.ca/article/pair-of-st...20131029113252
Quote:
Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Charleston Hughes was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 18. Hughes was able to take sole possession of the CFL sack lead by getting to Darian Durant three times in Calgary’s 29-25 win over Saskatchewan.
Hughes, a six-year CFL vet, had a total of five tackles in the game.
The former standout at Northwood University leads the CFL with 18 sacks and is one sack shy of Harold Hallman’s Stampeders single-season record.
|
Quote:
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 18.Cornish ran for 109 yards on 20 carries (5.5 YPC) and a touchdown in Calgary’s division clinching win over Saskatchewan.
Cornish also added a pair of receptions for 12 yards in the game.
The seven-year veteran from New Westminster, BC extended his rushing over 100-yards streak to five games. In those games, Cornish has rushed for 706 yards on 86 carries (8.2 YPC) and four touchdowns.
The Kansas University product also broke Willie Burden’s 38-year-old Stampeders record for most yards from scrimmage in a season.
Cornish currently leads the CFL in rushing (1,799 yards) and touchdowns (14) this season, with one week left in the 2013 season. Cornish has won Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week seven times this season, including in Weeks 1, 7, 11,15,16 and 17.

So, will this finally be the year that the same player wins both Outstanding Player and Outstanding Canadian?
It would be the first time since 1978. Tony Gabriel (1978) and Russ Jackson (1963, 1966, 1969), both Ottawa Rough Riders, are the only players to have done it previously.
Is there anyone else who could realistically win MOP, other than Cornish?

Ricky Ray is the only other guy who could win MOP. The only thing holding him back is the number of games has has played. Cornish should win.

I think it'll depend on whether voters think that Ray was in enough games to make him eligible. He set some records, he matches Cornish with three offensive player of the week awards. Six games where he had a QB rating better than 140 is excellent. That he did that in just 10 games is remarkable.
Yet what does it say about the league that a guy who appears in only 11 games out of 18 can be the best player? I could see it if there was absolutely nobody else having a great season, but that's not the case, with Cornish obviously having a great year.
What are the chances of Calgary sweeping the western nominees? Cornish/Cornish/Hughes/Parades... I think that's a legitimate ballot.
edit: oops, forgot rookie of the year and lineman. Yeah, Jones is a solid west nominee for rookie. Not sure who the best lineman in the west is.

To put this into some perspective, at the pace Cornish has been running in his past five games extended over the full season, he would finish with a whopping 2700 yards.
Kory Sheets's streak at the beginning of the season was just that: A STREAK. He and Riders fans can crow all they want about how he was on pace to break records. The fact of the matter does not change: there was no way Sheets would have sustained that momentum even if he had not missed one more game than Cornish.
Cornish is undisputedly the best runner in the CFL.
