Didn't you do your research? They didn't just surprise people with taking those things out.
You should be angry at yourself.
in my opinion, this argument is unfair. The primary reason why getting an iphone for my mom, and contemplated for my wife, was the simplicity and 'it just works' concept.
researching boards, etc, is something i expect more technically savvy folk to do (ie. not my mom/wife).
therefore, if apple has slipped in it's reputation of being an easy to use interface, then i think things start evening up (at the very least) pretty quickly in the smartphone space.
After reading this nonsense about removing youtube from iPad i am very glad not to have updated. Also means that when it comes time to get another tablet it won't be an iPad.
You know, your free ride on the Apple arrogance train needs to stop.
In fact, there are 47 percent of the people who are blind fanboys and will buy their respective Apple/RIM/Android products no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are already aligned with a specific company, who are dependent upon their pride as a fanboy, who believe that they are victims, who derive personal satisfaction from their vitriol and mocking of non-believers, who believe that the other companies are arrogant, dumb, you-name-it --that's a fanboy. And they'll never change. And they will buy new Apple/RIM/Android products no matter what ... These fanboys ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should apply a rational analysis in their personal life or their business decisions.
I kid . . . well, maybe just a little.

Even IF Google maps is released on iOS, you'll be sure that there will be no way that Apple would allow it to be set as the default map application. Really breaks the idea of a unified and functional phone experience when you have an app you don't want to use that you'll be forced to link into. Looking up a restaurant? Opens Apple maps. I wonder if Steve Jobs would have made this decision if he were still around. He was always about getting his best vision of experience on these products.
Yeah, I highly doubt GoogleMaps will be integrated into Siri, severely hampering Siri's functionality.
Google Maps was an undeleteable app on previous versions of iOS until this one. I'd say it was forced on people just like Apple Maps.
I'm glad its unbundled, to be honest. Same with YouTube. Google is building a nice suite of tools in Plus/Maps/Earth/Youtube/Chrome on iOS, and having them unbundled will let Google take them in the direction it wants

You should be glad its unbundled because now Google will actively develop it. Apple did the bare minimum with that app.
Exactly. The partnership made literally no sense anymore. When iOS came out with Youtube, there was no App Store. The less forced apps the better. Still wish I could remove about 5 or 6 more...

Except by having it independently developed you break integration with every single other app that uses location as they will all rely on Apple Maps by default.

Apple's in really tough here. I'm not impressed with the new maps app, but honestly it works well enough for my needs. The problem is nine times out of ten I get to maps via Google search results or other web pages, which almost always call up Google maps. So even if Apple maps were the best on the planet I wouldn't be using them as much. The slick integration between search, websites and the map app is gone.
Waiting for the Google maps app and hoping it integrates well.

Well this is an interesting point, because I think it points to the major issue that was coming down the pike - I bet one of the reasons Google was replaced as the map provider is because Google wanted some of the money for every single app that made use of location services (and therefore indirectly leveraged the Google API as a third-party)

I believe Google's going rate is $0.05/1000 location lookups. This tends to be reasonable given the level of service provided. The rest of the cost is assumed by location advertising and similar place suggestions by businesses. Since it was integrated previously Apple would have assumed the costs and they just decided not to pay and implemented there own system to the detriment of the consumer. Given the pile of money that Apple is sitting on, it really wasn't a cost issue, internal comments also point to this purely as a political issue.

I actually feel bad for this girl and I don't usually for people like this. I think she has never really owned her own smart phone and is not in any way smart technically. She decided this will be her first smart phone and he picking on her non technical knowledge and the fact that she is not knowledgable in smart phones.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone finds those kind of things funny or entertaining. It's OK when Samsung makes fun of the iPhone users, because they are mocking people that know how to use them, but this is just mean regardless of what phone she was getting.

Am I the only one who thinks this woman is an actor?
