And then you can sell them afterwards, for probably $200-300.

One big benefit is that babies diapered in cloth are supposed to potty train sooner.
Lol, by whose estimates? Maybe if you buy the smallest packs at regular price. We spend about $30-$35/month on diapers. Our kid stopped wearing diapers at around 30 months. So we spent around $900 + maybe another $100 on diaper genie refills.

I'm with yads... I don't think I've ever spent over $40 in a single month for disposable diapers. When my wife and I worked out the pros and cons of cloth vs. disposable the decision largely came down to one of sustainability instead of affordability. We've never really reached an agreement on the matter... we use both.

@Table 5: Interesting about the potty training in other cultures. As long as nobody's stressing out I say go hard.

While I do see the logic behind it, I believe this has yet to be proven and currently resides in the category of wives tales. The number of wives tales in parenting is out of control. From the moment the kid is sitting high in the womb you'll be bombarded by information that is mysteriously correct about 50% of the time.

Generally the only concrete numbers available on these things is from personal experience. While I'm guilty of using that same line of thinking all the time, it's important to note that after a brief survey of my friends, 100% of moms find the energy given off by an amber necklace will cure teething pain.
