Fell asleep in the third, caught the final score this morning.
Not overly disappointed. It was a closely matched game. Hart was solid, gaudreau was flying.
Flames were guilty of some pretty brutal giveaways again (Hanafin on the Philly game tying goal). I also haven't liked Dube's game much at all this season. Other than that, glad they got a point last night.
Not surprised to see the flames a bit lost in 3on3. Don't think sutter's system and structure are meant for this, which is fine.

Hopefully Kylington continues to improve
Can’t win without a true #1 dman and Andersson and Hanifin are not it.
Would be a disaster without Johnny. Give him what he wants and get it done.
Monahan is a replacement level now. His only good attribute is the shot and it’s gone. Very sad.

Andersson doesn’t have the wheels for 3 on 3.

Monahan looks like he's trying, and I appreciate his no-excuse mentality, but he seems to be thinking the game very slowly right now. There's just not enough time and space for him to operate effectively.
There was one opportunity in which Monahan held onto the puck for a few seconds, allowing Hart to get into position to make the save. Vintage Monny would have had a quickly release and likely beaten the goalie.
His skating speed isn't really there either.
He's still an okay player, but his pacing leaves a lot to be desired right now.

I like it. Not much to complain about at all.

I do think the team needs to add another top 6 right shot forward. Right wing or center. But that has been the case for awhile now. Just really important this year.

Think the issue is not having a set strategy and not having extremely strong skaters deployed in OT.
I'd start 3 on 3 with Gaudreau Dube Kylington but that's just me

He’s been like that for a while. Unless he’s shooting, his decision-making is in slow motion.

He is really struggling to be effective 5 on 5. Still a weapon on the PP where things happen slower and he doesn't have 200 feet of responsibility.
It's a shame because more 5 on 5 production would really make this team dangerous.

I thought he was dangerous the game before. Last night wasn't good. But then again, it wasn't good for a lot of forwards. Tkachuk was ineffective, Dube really struggled, Lucic wasn't very good, Backlund was pretty meh. I thought JG and Lindholm played well and Coleman had his moments. Thought Pitlick was very present.

Meh, take the point and move on. I thought Hart was better than just good. Robbed Lindholm of a couple that are sure goals and made it look stupid easy. One in particular I remember in the 2nd, johnny dangled through a defender and dragged him to the left of net, then passed back across the middle to a streaking lindholm with a clear shot. Hart read the play perfectly, even though Johnny had been shooting heavy all game, and caught the lindholm chance square without a big dive across the net. Great positioning and read from him.

The OT strategy is a bit off.
Personally I liked when we started with our defensive forwards first.
I'd start with Backlund and Coleman in OT. If you win the faceoff then quickly switch to get Gaudreau on the ice, if you lose the faceoff then you have a couple of puck hounds that are more likely to be able to get the puck back on the ice.
Last night though the issue was that Gaudreau and Lindholm got selfish. They should have never tried to make that last rush, they already looked exhausted and instead of trying to make a play there they should have held the puck and changed the unit.
The second that puck was given away I knew it was bad news because all three guys were tired already and neither forward had the legs left to get close to getting back.

The worst part about these OTLs is that we're oh-so-close to a PGT of hilarious gifs and unforgettable ATLs... and then yank! none for you! Get your crap together, Flames! The loser point does NOT make up for this injustice!

You can still post the gifs and Gaskal will just do an ATL on us...
Some of the posts are for sure ATL worthy on here. Just have to rename it SOL instead of ATL.

The OTL are somewhat concerning, but to me, the answer is very clear. Win the game in regulation. There are teams that are good in OT, good in shootouts and etc. If the Flames are not, then win the game 5 on 5 then.
Although, that would require this team to start scoring more goals which promises to be a very difficult task for a lot of guys on this team right now. Outside of 3 or 4 guys who've been carrying this team offensively, literally everyone else could contribute more especially since the ice times don't swing that heavily at the top, it's pretty evenly balanced.
Also, the PP sits top 10 right now, so that's not really the problem either compared to even strength where 80% of the team needs to pick it up because even an extra goal or 2 here or there would result in a 10-3-3 record instead of 8-3-5.
