This about sums it all up, really: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/bre...tion-1.6663766
Quote:
The strategic communications firm Enterprise Canada has served lawyer Brendan Miller with a defamation notice in response to claims Miller made this week about one of the firm's employees.
Miller is the legal counsel for a group of convoy protest organizers before the Public Order Emergency Commission...
During the hearings on Monday, Miller suggested — citing no evidence — that Brian Fox, a partner at Enterprise, carried a Nazi flag in the thick of the protest crowd in Ottawa last winter so that photos would be taken and the protesters would be discredited.
|
Quote:
Lietaer told CBC News Network's Power & Politics on Tuesday that Fox is getting death threats due to Miller's "unhinged allegation."
"It's absolutely ridiculous," Lietaer told guest host David Cochrane. "It's having real impacts, I mean the threats … it's got to stop."
But Miller continued his line of questioning about Fox throughout this week's inquiry hearings and has at certain points attempted to tie Enterprise and Fox to the Liberal Party.
|
Quote:
In a letter addressed to Miller Tuesday, Enterprise's counsel Jeff Galway said Fox was not in Ottawa during the protests earlier this year, and that he recalled last visiting the city in 2019.
The letter also says that Fox is a longstanding member of the Conservative Party.
|
Quote:
On Thursday evening, Miller mistook an observer who was leaving commission for Fox. Miller chased after the man and asked him if he wanted to testify.
"Well, that was fun," Miller said, laughing after the encounter. "There's a hole in my case."
Miller apologized to the individual.

You’re not an outlier. I agree with this. Patriotism(my country is the best), civic pride(insert my city is the best) or even brand pride (this brand I buy is the best) is something I’ve never understood.

I'm in the same boat. I feel the same way now when I see a Canadian flag on a car that I used to feel when I saw American flags everywhere when in the US. I like Canada, and I would choose living here over most places but I always found that over the top patriotism to be a little weird.

it is purely emotionally fuelled and based on an irrational over attachment to an entity
meanwhile the country , city and brand don't really give a **** about you personally anywhere near the same extent . you're just another number on the stats sheet
pride within reason is fine .. but to take it as far as people have just shows they're completely out of tune with reality and have let their emotions completely drive the bus
no entity is worth the things people will willingly put on the line for , potentially ruining their own livelihoods
but really these are just arbitrary invisible lines that divide and organize us into separate populations while we occupy and share the same land and planet
attacking the infrastructure of your country while waving its flag is also something that clearly very little thought was actually put into
it was created through diplomatic processes over years , and you think that up-ending it by force overnight is honoring its history and is patriotic? you're clearly lost, out of touch, and don't care nor remember any of what you were taught in middle school social studies about this country you were raised in

You're debating attachment to things like brand and city and so forth on a Calgary Flames message board? And you didn't bring up sports teams?

These people are ####ing crazy.
Quote:
They considered themselves "preppers," Olienick told police, and said they expected they'd eventually "have to defend each other."
|
Oh good, preppers.
Quote:
"Olienick believed the police should all die," according to the officer's notes. "He also believed that if the police brought the war to Coutts, [the protesters] will slit their throats."
|
Sounds reasonable.
Quote:
"Morin said he was not going to go down there and shoot people" before the caller "interrupted to say sarcastically 'Oh, let's talk about that over the phone, you f--king idiot.'"
|
Whoops!
Quote:
Olienick also told police he believed that when that happened, Canada would be invaded by a United Nations-directed army of Chinese troops to install a "totalitarian communist regime" with "executions and gas chambers."
Olienick said he learned this conspiracy theory from Telegram.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, you moran.
Worth reading the whole thing, lots of uhm, stuff in there.

I thought preppers lived in the middle of nowhere and only came to the city to buy jerky-making supplies from Cabelas.

That's definitely how they like to think of themselves.
I've dabbled in prepping, but that's because I like buying cool knives and the odd tomahawk.
Most "preppers" are just fat dudes who like guns who wouldn't last two weeks without their insulin.
Actual preppers you won't hear from. They have hidden food caches and hidden bunkers and know to STFU and not broadcast their preps. Best prep of all is flying under the radar versus flapping your gums on the internet and honking your horn in the middle of the nation's capital.
Edit: I see I have corrected you only to prove your point but used quintuple the words to do so. Sorry W.

These f***wits and their trucks wouldn't be allowed anywhere near downtown. They'd be forced to have their carnival of idiots way out in Kanata somewhere in the middle of an empty field.

Which is what the Cops should have done in the first place.
There is no problem if they want to protest, you show up, honk a bit and then get moved along.
Again, people are allowed to protest, even if its something stupid. You're not allowed to occupy a city.
