With Street on waivers and on his way back the Heat will have a glut of forwards. Im assuming a few will get sent to the ECHL, but still a lot of extra bodies.

I really hope Street passes through waivers. He was one of the best players league wide when he was called up.

The Heat's roster is through the roof amazing right now. It obviously won't last as we will be sellers at the deadline and some of these guys will be headed to Calgary to replace the moved out pieces.

I panicked for a second there when Street/Jones/Byron were called up and we were pulling ECHLers to try to balance back out the roster.

Now we have an awesome mix of skilled rooks, experienced vets, and #truculence.

Let's just hope Ramo's injury wasn't too serious, because beyond Orts, goaltending is the only weak spot right now.

So... Just watching the post-game conference from TGW. How can you not love this guy? He admits he'll be studying game tape instead of watching the Super Bowl.

I've never heard of a guy so committed to coaching. Apparently he does like 18 hour days nearly every day.

Gamedays he gets to the arena at 4:00 am and leaves at about midnight. Can't get much more dedicated than that.

If I remember correctly, Ortio was worried at the start of the season about coming over with so many goalies in the Flames system.

I think so far he has out played everyone at his level and deserves a cup of coffee in the NHL. He has earned this shot, he worked really hard for it, he did it without complaining and there is no reason he shouldn't get it.

I am really excited for the guy if he gets this shot.

Couldn't agree more. The guy's oozing with confidence right now. Here's a quote from him from last night's presser:

Just some questions for the Heat guys on the forum. First off I love how much you guys post about the team

1. Who plays more at center, Granlund or Reinhart? I understand they have played together quite a bit

2. PMM, you mentioned that Smith/Ramage is a great puck moving pair. Obviously Smith is a good passer at the NHL but can the same be said about Ramage? I ask because he only has one assist this season despite playing quite a bit

1. Reinhart plays more centre. Granlund has played centre at points during the year and is decent at it, but that was when Reinhart wasn't on his line. Markus plays LW when he's with Reinhart.

2. Ramage and Smith have turned out to be a very good pairing. Smith is more of the rusher/spin-o-rama/make-everything-look-so-easy-that-he-doesn't-belong-in-this-league type of D-man. Ramage, on the other hand, plays a steadier game in his own zone, but holds the O-zone line quite well. He doesn't create any offense, but he can help by holding the line well and getting the puck deep for his teammates to grind it out. At one point in the season, I said Wotherspoon and Ramage were almost identical. But now Wotherspoon's starting to pull away slightly. He's playing like the steady defenseman the Flames drafted him for.

Do you think Wotherspoon will be NHL ready next year? Top 4 potential?

Depending on what happens, Wotherspoon could get a cup of coffee this year.

Probably not NHL ready. Defensemen develop a bit slower. A cup of coffee wouldn't be a bad thing, but I don't think he'll be NHL ready.

The popcorn disintegrates like cotton candy as soon it touches liquid and the pretzels will make the inside of your mouth shrivel up like a slug that had salt sprinkled on it.

Somehow they've been able to get the Sleeman's and soda below freezing point without it turning to a solid, which is downright awesome. (That's just my theory).
Sleemans and Panago for supper. Awesome thanks!

No kidding. I load up at Vagabonds before games so that I don't have to drink Bud. Pocket dogs, donuts and lemonade are ok.

PMM I have missed the last few games due to work commitments, but since Sven was moved off the Granlund/Reinhart line has he stayed on RW? Because I think this may be apart of his struggles, I think his waning confidence mixed with being moved to his off wing have added to his struggles.

This weekend he played LW with Locke in the middle and Jooris on the right. Picked up two primary assists, one on each of Jooris' goals.

that's disappointing, I was really hoping they would keep him on the right side and let him work through things since he would be even more valuable to us as a RW.

It looks like Joni Ortio is about to get a call up from the Flames.

Heat have signed G THOMAS HEEMSKERK to a PTO.

(The other probability is that Roy is going back to Alaska and MacDonald isn't ready to go, but that one seems less likely)

And apparently Joni is already in Calgary:

Think it's pretty safe to say Ortio has been recalled, seeing as how he's on the ice here at the Saddledome. #Flames

It's all officially, official: http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=703496

(Now I have to go change my signature. I should know better, make a Horak one and he gets traded the next week. Make a Ortio one, he gets called up 2 days later)

Thomas Heemskerk: http://theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=3654

Briefly a team mate of Reinhart's in Kootenay. 6 games played with the Sharks' AHL affiliate over the last two seasons. He has played 16 games this season for the Quad City Mallards (that's a name I haven't heard in a while) of the Central Hockey League.

Now it's Roy's chance to earn a contract.

Ortio is able to be returned to Abby for the Olympics, BTW.
