In a perfect world, yes.
But because CGY wants maximum value, they will trade for the best offer out there (obviously)

Problem with a deal like this is the contract extensions means things drag out and creates potential points where it falls apart.

Hopefully they can get it over the finish line for maximum value, or else then have to shift to the best offer as a pure rental

I think there's a few teams he's willing to sign with for sure (extension)
It comes down to whether he wants to sign now, or try to leverage his UFA status for more $$ at end of year.

Well any team that’s offering 8 years now is almost automatically offering more money than he can get as a UFA.

Maybe they are all offering less than 8.

My guess is even if it does get done today it won't be announced until tomorrow morning.

But if it were done today and he was pulled from the lineup, they would likely need to say something to support it. I guess just 'for precautionary' would be the statement and just let everyone put two and two together and not sleep.

Why would it matter if he goes home before or after it is announced? If it’s done he’s already aware.

Seems more likely they would announce and when Andersson joins his new team, he joins his new team

I really hope it isn't Dallas, they just don't have the prospects or picks to make it an attractive deal. I have my hopes on Boston, Detroit or my wildcard San Jose.

Agreed. Just because the other trades were completed without incident I wouldn't risk this one which has taken almost a year to get to this point.

Why not withhold him from morning skate to put additional last minute pressure on teams in the running. To think someone else is closer then they are.
