Yeah would certainly suggest a shift in the final trade towards Conroy's ask and away from Jersey's line in the sand.

I agree. Devs would need to add a non-roster prospect and preferably something for retention on Markstrom.
I won't be happy if Mercer is in the deal.

We’ll see. I don’t really care about the roster player. Someone they can rehab. Holtz + a 1st would be the best return for a goalie in ages. Mercer for Markstrom would be a Forsberg/Erat level trade imo. Markstrom is good but the returns in general aren’t amazing. Kuemper/Anderson/Jones/Lehner all returned late 1sts. Kuemper had Timmins tossed in.

Markstrom is actively costing the Flames draft position.

I consider both Markstrom and Saros to have the same reputation as elite goalies, here is what SN proposes Saros nets from NJ. So I don't think our expectations are out of wack. Also, I don't like that Hanifin proposal.

All I can tell you is you are underestimating Markstrom's value right now.

The Flames don't think this way, and I guarantee you this isn't a talking point for management in their meetings.
It's about the assets they can extract, first and foremost.

I'm calling it now
To Calgary:
Mercer, 2024 1st round pick (top 10 protected), 2025 2nd round pick, B level prospect & roster player/cap dump,
To NJ:
Markstrom ($1.5M-$2M retained)

I agree that the Flames don't think this way (at least out loud. But you asked "why should they?"

Yeah I believe Sec mentioned the return as a roster player + prospect + 1st + 2nd (for retention).
If a deal comes in with that sort of return Conroy will have hit a home run for this team.

You wouldn't be happy with a guy who scored 27 his second year in the league for a goalie we couldn't of gotten a bag of peanuts for last year?

It makes no sense to me unless you are definitely flipping Kuzy.

I take Holtz and run. Coronato is likely a third line player who can contribute on the PP IMO. Smallish and is not great defensively. Shelter him and you probably have a guy that will score you 20-25 with the right matchups. Holtz will be better in all situations.

He is on NJ's side here, not ours.

I hope you are wrong.
Lottery protection is irrelevant, there is no way the Devils are a bottom 10 team and have used up all their draft lottery luck.

I know this is greedy but could the Flames get Mercer and Holtz if they add to Markstrom? Something like Markstrom+Mangiapane (35% retained in both) it would Bring both players under $4M and 1 extra year for Mangi and 2 for Marky.
Getting 2 22 year old former first rounders would be a nice way to retool

Yeah that would be a huge haul and worth retaining for. 4 good pieces and a reclamation project roster player like Vanecek would be a much better return than Lindholm even and as said earlier an incredible turnaround for a player who seemingly had close to negative value after last season. That kind of found money would go a long ways to undoing some of the damage Treliving did by mishandling the situation with Johnny and losing him for no assets.
I'm happy here with anything around Mercer, that many added pieces would be a shocker
