That's why it's surprising that Trump's handlers allowed him to go and break the news to his followers on social media. Assassination attempts aren't completely unheard of and they typically try to keep it on the downlow or downplay it as much as possible to avoid inspiring others to do the same.

In 2011, when some dude fired shots at the White House, Obama didn't jump on social media right away to let everyone about it. Or when someone sent Biden a pipe bomb in 2018, they did jump on to social media to announce before investigators could control the message.

Trump is either stupid and/or doesn't actually believe he is in real danger. Probably both.
