If these are Weisbrods guys perhaps he's not the guy. Then again when there is a window of 4 teams to bargain with it isn't surprising on the return. Maybe teams will be less willing to hand out no trade clauses like candy. Oh wait there are about 20 gms that still will

As for screwing Iginla, I'm not sure if it is indeed screwing Iginla or rather not allowing Iginla to screw the Flames.

That said, I'm investigating situation from pure negotiations/leverages standpoint, because I found it interesting. I'm not implying that Bruins offer was really THAT much better nor that Flames did wrong thing by pleasing their icon. It's just interesting leverages battle to me.
I guess that's true, but it really doesn't make any sense (which with this group possibly makes it more likely).

And whether it's actually screwing Iginla or not at the end of the day taking that stand would put Flames management in a pretty negative light league wide.

Iginla adds such depth and options for the Penguins. Unreal. Iginla is going to do well without the weight of the team on him.

Or perhaps the 'neutral observer' is not the guy. I love how the opinion of some random schmo just must be bang on while the opinion of anyone in the Flames organization is clearly wrong.

I wonder what Feaster and management saw in Hanowski and Agostino? Alot of Pens fans dont even know who the heck they gave away... Both are not even top 10 prospects in their system and that 1st is likely a early 2nd.

Preety underwhelming return for Iginla.. but in fairness, Feaster didnt really have much leverage considering that Iggy made his choice clear and Shero knew it.

With said, i would've thought you guys would get atleast one of Maata/Bennett/Despres/Pouliot/Harrington and Dumoulin.

Like Velo said they can sign and leave school at any time... it's no different then if a CHL guy refused to sign and one advantage is that you have to sign CHL guys within two years. NCAA bound guys you maintain exclusive signing rights over for four years. Gives the drafting team extra evaluation time and free's up a year or two of developmental resources. I like that the Flames are drafting more NCAA bound guys personally.

The Wings do it all the time and they do alright by it.

Well, they were drafted so obviously others think they have NHL potential.

I don't think these are Weisbrod's guys as much as they are simply the best Pittsburgh would do. The list wasn't 4 teams at this point. It was one team - Pittsburgh. Iginla took Boston out of it and it doesn't sound like either LA or Chicago made an offer. It's not like the Flames said that Agostino and Hanowski were the parts they wanted over guys like Maatta, Bennett, Pouliot, Depres, etc... This is what the Pens offerred to a GM with nowhere else to go.

Quite frankly, Shero is a real humanitarian for not even pulling the 1st off the table or making it conditional on winning the Cup. Shero is smart enough to know that it isn't always good business to totally screw people and kick them when they're down. A more respected GM than Feaster might have garnered more goodwill though.

Yup I figured the first was a given but definitely expected a more "known" commodity for Iggy. Was Feaster stuck on getting two prospects? I would have been happy if it were a first and Despres or Pouliot rather than the way it panned out. Quality over quantity.

But, if a CHL guy doesn't sign, he risks going into the draft and going undrafted and really hurting their pro chances. 99% of the time, it's a pretty strong incentive to sign.

A university player becomes a free agent. A lot of the time, this is a good reason not to sign.

Not sure if posted. Players around the league make comments on the big trade:

The Flames had no leverage. I am sure the big name prospects weren't on the table and Agostino and Hanowsky were only targeted by default. Of course, I wouldn't expect Feaster to say that.

They also have to spend 2 more years not getting paid to get that right. There's advantages and disadvantages to both.

By which ranking? HF had Agostino in there top 10 (albeit at spot 10, which with the subtraction of Morrow would have him at #9) and Hanowski at #12 (or #11 post Morrow) so their both borderline top 10 guys in Pittsburghs system. By their ranking system that would make them the 4/5 or 5/6 guys in our system.

C'mon... give'em a chance.

Oh please. More revisionist history.

2012 (3 CHL, 3 USHL, 1 high school)

Mark Jankowski C CAN 6' 2" 168 HIGH-QC Stanstead College
Patrick Sieloff D USA 6' 0" 192 USHL USA U-18
Jon Gillies G USA 6' 4" 216 USHL Indiana
Brett Kulak D CAN 6' 1" 181 WHL Vancouver
Ryan Culkin D CAN 6' 1" 176 QMJHL Quebec
Coda Gordon L CAN 6' 0" 176 WHL Swift Current
Matthew Deblouw C USA 6' 0" 179 USHL Muskegon

2011 (3 CHL, 1 USHL, 1 European league)

Sven Baertschi L CHE 5' 10" 181 WHL Portland
Markus Granlund C FIN 5' 11" 166 FINLAND-JR. HIFK Jr.
Tyler Wotherspoon D CAN 6' 1" 196 WHL Portland
John Gaudreau L USA 5' 6" 137 USHL Dubuque
Laurent Brossoit G CAN 6' 3" 200 WHL Edmonton

2010 ( 4 CHL, 1 USHL, 1 NCAA)

Maxwell Reinhart C CAN 6' 1" 180 WHL Kootenay
Joey Leach D CAN 6' 3" 187 WHL Kootenay
John Ramage D CAN 6' 1" 184 WCHA U. of Wisconsin
Bill Arnold C USA 6' 0" 218 USHL USA U-18
Michael Ferland L CAN 6' 0" 195 WHL Brandon
Patrick Holland R CAN 6' 0" 167 WHL Tri-City

Eighteen draft picks in the last three years, and only ONE of those drafted out of the NCAA. Five more currently playing in the NCAA.

Hardly sole sourcing. If there's any criticism here it would be about not drafting out of the European leagues.

Dumoulin or Harrington would've been perfect replacement for Jaybo.

That way theres a forward (Baertschi) a defenceman (Dumoulin/Harrington) to build a young core with. Then go hard after Bernier and BAM you got your young core to build around on.

It's not Iginla's fault that management didn't surround him with talent and took forever to finally man-up and start this rebuild... but make no mistake - Iggy was driving this trade. You try to bully him and the incremental gain you might have gotten in that Boston deal isn't worth the external issues you ruin into from a PR/reputation standpoint amongst iggy's peers.
I think this pretty much shows how badly Feaster bungled the entire process if this is even remotely true.

Meehan shouldn't have any knowledge of anyones offers or interests and nor should Iginla.

Feaster should have waited until a team had an offer that he was comfortable accepting from Iginla's short list, present to Iginla, then had him give a yes or no answer.

Meehan wouldn't have been able to say Jack.
