The Avs or the Hurricanes have always seemed like a bit of a better fit to me, the Devils aren't even very good, they will be with Hughes but I feel like their arc is still a couple seasons away. And the Avs in particular are already good with terrible goaltending.
From a timing and asset management perspective, moving Markstrom this deadline for a couple valuable assets like a 1st and a good young player to one of those teams would be immense. As others have noted, his play hasn't been consistent year to year and with his salary I could just as easily see him being tough to move this time next year behind a much weaker D corps.

The Oilers 1st rounder is ranked so high because you know it will be a worse pick.

IMO "shopping a deal" would have been taking the details of the Vancouver offer, sharing it with other teams and asking them to beat it.
I doubt that Conroy did that.
Going back to other teams and saying "give me your best offer" because we're about to pull the trigger isn't quite the same. Maybe semantics, but I don't consider that shopping their offer. And that makes good business sense.
This isn't an auction where the only thing that matters is a single dollar figure. I have had people "shop details of my offer" in business before. I don't like it. I have also had counterparties share details of their other offers with me so we can match or beat it. That feels good for a minute because you know you have the inside track, then you realize that you're doing business with somebody who is going to share any information you provide to them with your competitors.

How awesome would it be to trade the 2 things the Leafs need most, Markstrom and Tanev to the Devils and they proceed to knock them out of the playoff picture.

Probably a little different in this scenario with how the NHL is a bit more of a closed ecosystem.
You probably would never share exact player details with the other teams because that would be breaking their trust.
But he would go and say "I have a 1st round pick, a roster player, a top prospect, and another prospect on the table from another team, what is your best offer"
So you share the structure and it's up to them then to determine the exact value they are willing to offer you.

Probably bad news for Pelletier instead of trade movement.

Well I doubt either of us have negotiated an NHL trade but IMO the details you described would be too much to share. And unnecessary to engage in good faith negotiating.
In this scenario you’re better served telling the team what you want from them, vs. providing detail on what someone else is offering.
If a GM does go around and tell other teams that level of detail on their other discussions, I do think they’d find it harder to close deals.
I have had exact situations where the structure of a deal was a central component to our offer. And sharing that structure with our competitors would be a betrayal of confidence.

Julian MacKenzie reported that Pelletier was seen (unsure where - my take) smiling with fans and no sling on his arm. I'm guessing Pelts is sore and will have a few days/games off for precautionary reasons.

If the Flames are going to trade Markstrom mid season I wouldn't wait much longer. This is turning into a distraction and I dont want to hurt his play.

TBF, I take Pelts saying "no worries" to a fan with a bit of a grain of salt. But for sure he isn't hospitalized or keeping the arm stable. I bet they took some images of the shoulder and are resting him.

Always looked to me more like he got his bell rung than a shoulder injury.
Won't be surprised if he's spending the minimum required time in concussion protocol.
