7, 20 and 29 would look pretty good off either of these lists

Also, just noticed that Nurse is a nephew of former NFL QB Donovan McNabb.
His entire family has mega athlete lineage. Darnell Nurse comes from great athletic bloodlines, although they are a little different from what you would expect. The Hamilton, Ontario native is the nephew (by marriage) of former NFL Quarterback Donovan McNabb. His father, Richard Nurse was a a Wide Receiver for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. His mother, Cathy, was a CIS (then CIAU) basketball player; and his sister, Tamika played NCAA collegiate hoops at Oregon and Bowling Green. His younger sister, Kia, is also an excellent basketball player and on Canada’s Under 15 Women’s Team. His Aunt, Raquel (McNabb’s wife) was an NCAA basketball star, a former player of the year, and three time Big East All-Star. Nurse hasn’t had to look far for high level athletic role models in his life, and their influence has helped him develop as an athlete both on and off the ice.

VALERY NICHUSHKIN 6'4 196lbs - LW
FREDERIK GAUTHIER 6'5 210lbs - C
RYAN HARTMAN 6'2 203lbs - RW

That would def bring some size and skill too the Flames

I don't know much about him. Is he a Corey Perry type? I noticed he's got a lot of pims and he's a point per game guy

Honestly, if we end up picking 7-8 and Nichushkin is there, you take the big guy. Could end up being the best player in the draft when the dust settles. it doesnt look like were gonna be in the top 5, so we gotta take a risker pick IMO.

It's tough taking a guy who can't step in right away. It's so risky.
His skill is incredible though. I'd be happy taking him if the big 4 were gone.

I was against Nichushkin as a top 3/4 pick, but now that we are looking at the 7th pick, possibly later as Philly, Buffalo, and New Jersey are all within 2 points, I say if he is available go for it. Kinda (very) upset with the Flames for losing when it matters, then winning when it doesn't.

At first I would have been a bit disappointed to find out the Flames might not come away with one of MacKinnon, Barkov, Lindholm or Monahan but the more I think about it, Nichushkin would hardly be a terrible consolation prize. Baertschi, Backlund, Brodie, Granlund, Gaudreau, Horak and even 6'3'' Janowski aren't exactly an intimidating physical young core. A 6'4'' power forward might actually be just as big of a need as a center, although easier to acquire with free agency. And I think there's still a couple centers in the 2014 draft even if the Flames aren't lucky enough to come away with Reinhart (or McDavid in 2015). With Nichushkin in the system and a top 5 pick next year I would love to see the Flames grab Nylander, a bit soft but that's a lot more manageable with Nichushkin on his wing. And with a right handed shot, it wouldn't be entirely terrible to have one of the many left wingers play on their off-side.

A line of Baertschi-Nylander-Nichushkin in 5 years I think would actually gel really well, Baertschi would have to play the all around game, hard work and defense, Nylander gets the offensive center role and Nichushkin creates space and time with his size.

Does anyone have any goods on Bo Horvat? Gone from #24 to #10 in the last month on the ISS chart.
Listed as a Left Wing here but TSN describes him as a Centre here.

He's described as having
Quote:
decent size with good hockey skills in all areas of anyone's evaluation criteria. He is unselfish with the puck, he does not cheat in his own end, and also plays physically. He has clear leadership qualities.
6", 203 lbs
57gp 33g 28a 61pts +3 28pim

Seems like a huge jump to make in a month, particularly when there's so little movement in the rest of the top 30. What history do players who make that kind of sudden jump in the rankings have? If we keep winning, is he worth looking at a lot more closely? What are the odds he sinks to our St. Louis pick, considering he was ranked #24 a months ago?

Would people be stoked to walk out of the first round with Nichushkin, Horvat, Fucale/Petan?

Edmonton should be all over Nurse.

We're gonna win the lottery anyways so might as well win some games and show all these other loser teams how its done.

I have a funny feeling if we're looking at a mid-round center Weisbrod is going to be looking hard at T.J. Compher.

If we don't end up with one of the big 7, I wouldn't mind picking:

-Nurse/Ristolainen/Zadorov/Pulock
Blues pick: Zykov/Mantha/Erne/Shinkaruk
'Guin's pick: Compher/Burakovsky/Hartman/Klimchuck

There are some solid prospects outside of the 7 we're fixating on. Shinkaruk & Klimchuck are both Calgary boys.

I've only seen Zadorov play once. Sam Cosentino said nice things about him, he's a big boy and he looked quite strong, but I couldn't help thinking that he's not very quick. Again, it was one viewing, but I'd hate for the Flames to draft a guy in the first round who some good qualities but isn't a great skater (Nemisz).

The way that the team is rolling at the moment I wouldn´t be suprised if they win two of their last three and climb up to the 10th spot. Meaning all the big centers probably are gone. Trading up would become a valid strategy at that point.

I really hope he tells some of them to relax and play for FUN and not win. It was so hard watching last nights game when the whole time I was hoping for a loss. I'm still hoping for a top 5 pick. Jones/Mackinnon/Drouin/Lindholm/Monahan??

I see the sentiment developing to reach in order to draft a centreman. If we continue to slide down in the draft order, I think the higher the likelihood is that we end up drafting a defenseman (in effect, BPA).

well i am sad that the flames again will miss the playoffs, and again miss out on drafting in the top 5.

That being said getting 3 picks in the first round will definitely be key in turning the outlook of this franchise around. We need more high quality prospects at center, RW, and D. Size is a big problem at the forward position also.

this is why I think i would be disappointed if the flames traded any of these 1st round picks, even if it were to be in efforts to move up (ie. flames pick + blues pick to move up).

Only way i would be willing to move up is if the add in piece were a roster player (ie. flames pick + tanguay/cammalleri/hudler/etc) mind you, it would never happen, so realize it's a pipe dream.
