If Nichushkin fell to us I wouldn't be sad at all.
The guy is a top 3 pick in this draft if he is North American born.
I have to agree. Nichushkin has to be the Flames target if Lindholm is off the board. Monahan is a great prospect in his own right but Nichushkin has so much more elite potential. And this is coming from a guy who likes Monahan a lot.

If we go 2-1 we'll pass the Flyers, Sabres and Devils in all likelihood, so can still be drafting 10th. Will make me all the more excited when we win powerball.
Back to players... Had a chance to watch the London Knights/Plymouth Whalers game today. My thoughts (keep in mind it was just one game)
Horvat - he fits the bill as your prototype big Centre. Definitely has the size most here would want. He was good on the draws in this game. They stick him right in front of the net on the first power play unit and he works for rebounds, etc. He is not a dynamic jump off the page talent though. He's one of those guys who if he was a few inches shorter he wouldn't be a first rounder.
Domi - pretty well the opposite of Horvat. He is very dynamic. Great first step and the ability to blow by defenders. Good shot as well. But he's short. Don't see him as a centre in the NHL. He got hit pretty good at the end if regulation but came back fine in ot. He's one of those guys whose a bit too intense right now and can take dopey penalties but also really wants to win. He is more likely a first line talent than Horvat, but not as a centre.
Zadarov - he's big. But he can skate. They use him on the 2nd power play unit so he's not one of those giant plugs who gets hype because of his size. He's still a bit of a project but has a very high ceiling. Can be quite the hitter. They were talking about how he had 2 fights in his first two games before they had to talk to him and settle him down. And get him to playing hockey. He's a bit sheltered with the Knights as they don't use him as shut down guy or a top offensive guy at this point.

Pretty much exactly how I see it. (Also a Monahan fan)
I think if the Flames keep winning they'll package two firsts to get into the top 5. So either waywe have one of these guys in the system soon. No excuse not to with the options they have
I believe the Plymouth goalie is draft eligible as well. He's not the biggest guy but has played very well this year and stole the job away from a fairly highly regarded vet. If the flames take a goalie late he might be worth a flyer. (he's got a long name so I won't even try to spell it on my phone).
How does this guy scare you? This guy makes Seth Jones look like a pylon. Players who can't cut it in the NHL go to the KHL.
Wow, this guy looks like a man already. I know it's just highlights with some cheesy music (why do these videos always have Euro or Rock music anyway?), but the guy looks pretty solid on offence. I'd really like to see more of him.

Kid reminds of Malkin. 6'4 200lbs, long reach and not afraid to go hard to the net

I am now officially in the draft Nichushkin mode now! I think we can sway him with top line minutes and he basically becomes the franchise player here.

That video shows him going down RW a TON. C/RW instead of the traditional LW because he shoots left?
Nothing wrong with a left handed RW. More I see of this guy, if the Flames pass on him if he falls to us the more I worry.
If the Flames interview him and get a really sketchy vibe then I have no problem with passing on him. On the other hand if they come away with a great impression, then I wouldn't mind taking him at all.

Sure does. At worst push Nichushkin down to CGY spot. Although I cannot fathom how EDM does not take a D man with their pick.
I think the Oilers will move their pick in an effort to land either a D or a big F... I'm not sure whom they might be targeting, but I can really see that happening.

This is very typical with Russians and Russian hockey.
Almost all players shoot left, but the god-father of Russian hockey (can't remember his name) taught them to attack down the right side. When you watch the Russians play, you will see them constantly trying to enter the offensive zone on the right side.
Possibly as a result of that fact, quite often the best Russians (left handed shots) play right wing. Ovechkin is one of many examples.
Edit: Tarasov

So teams should be looking at him as a RW predominantly then. Just so happens to be an area of weakness with these Flames no?
Wading in late, any thought of whoever is calling the shots at the draft, in flipping the two first rounders to get in top 2? Seems far to steep though.Or for that matter, would any trade be worth it, let alone accepted, to get into that top 2 if the lottery ball doesn't go our way?
Also, just noticed that Nurse is a nephew of former NFL QB Donovan McNabb.
