if you are getting a goalie like that, you can move salary for another upgrade
from teams in the top 8 waiver priority
Florida and Edmonton take him automatically

There's just one problem with keeping Luongo over Schnieder, which I agree is the right move. But would Luongo want to stay in Vancouver for the rest of his career? The fans have treated him like garbage the last few years, and have blamed him for much of their failures. Then this year the organization itself treated him very poorly, couldn't find him a trading partner, then wouldn't start him when he was the better option in net. He also obviously doesn't want to spend the rest of his career in Vancouver, and would much prefer a Florida or maybe a Tampa Bay.
So really is keeping Luongo even an option for them anymore, unless they somehow convince him that things might turn around for the team, and him personally.

As a person who lives in Vancouver you should understand that there is deep psychological issues in the Vancouver fanbase. They have a victim complex and feel that the refs are routinely out to rob them.

Apparently Luongo's condo went up for sale a few days ago. Doesn't seem like be wants to stick around.

I fully agree. I will get mocked for this, but i don't see the flames doing a long rebuild and would probably also put a claim in for Lou if he was available. Don't think Lou would get passed Florida, who have already wanted him, but did not want to give anything up.

I thought Luigi has a no move clause......if so there is no way they can even contemplate waivers.

The penalty and result is the story of the game for fans out here. He's well aware the Canucks weren't going to win this series and the Sharks were the better team and there's major work that need to be done, but that gets set aside for a day while the ending of the game is analyzed.

If I'm Edmonton, why would I trade for Luongo when I have Dubnyk who has started to emerge as a solid goalie, is half the price, and who had better stats the Roberto this year on a team with zero defense?
Even if he could help them right away, what happens in a couple of years when they are up against the cap-ceiling and all their young stars are due for raises? Which one do you ship out just to keep an old goalie?
Someone may claim the guy, sure, but I don't think it would be an automatic, and it certainly wouldn't be very prudent long-term. There's still 9 years on that contract, and the guy isn't retiring anytime soon.

Cap Geek has it listed as a no-trade, which means he could be put on waivers. Even with a NMC, he could conceivably allow them to put him on waivers if he thought it was the best chance to end up back in Florida.

I'm pretty sure Luongo wouldn't want to stay even if Gillis said, "you're our guy. We want to trade Cory to stock up on prospects/picks."
Luongo's shown he's not that great of a big game goalie. He's thrown his teammates under the bus on numerous occasions. He's tweeted pictures of his packed bags on trade deadline (including a few "Am I traded yet?" tweets). After trade deadline he said he hates his contract, implying it's his contract that is keeping him in Vancouver and he really wants to go.

...Not to mention ignoring the past (at least) half-dozen years of Canuck diving and referee-call-influencing-seeking play...
At least Bieksa's hypocrisy was met with karmic justice last night...

I think he knows what he's doing
VFF would know more but they are probably getting tons of traffic/calls on this subject and in radio the host more often than not feeds in to that
if he acts calm than people turn off the station

he is stating matter of factly that it wasnt a penalty and then insinuates constantly that Sutherland was getting even for...something....as well as trying to show up his counterpart, the referee who didnt call it.
Its an embarrassment of epic proportions dude...i cant believe he is being allowed to go down this road. Its a freaking horrendous precedent for any real professional in broadcasting to set. Bad calls/missed calls happen ALL the time, but somehow when it concerns the prima donnas in Vancouver, its a conspiracy.
just unbelievable.
