I think there's a showdown right now between Vancouver and Calgary. If either team accepts a low offer, it lowers the value of the defensemen remaining

Wideman handcuffs a team next season, even with salary retained. Wideman is not realistic option for cap constrained teams

It was quiet on the Jamie McGinn front Saturday but Sabres getting calls today. Asking price is a 2nd-rd pick

I'm really curious to see who gets Drouin, and how much they give up. It's been a long time coming

Kris Russell & David Jones :
Quote:
With the Penguins acquisition of Justin Schultz it's safe to say they're no longer in the mix. Logic suggests the Bruins are now the favorites, but obviously other teams are involved as well.
To me the Bruins are a team that makes a lot of sense. They've been looking to add to their blue line all season and obviously they think adding Russell would do that for them.
They also have two 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, and a highly skilled prospect that seems to have fallen out of favor in Alex Khoklachev. Suffice to say they certainly have the assets to pay the expected premium it'll take to land Russell.
Don't expect David Jones, if traded, to fetch more than a 4th or 5th round pick. Teddy Purcell, for example, has put up more than double the points and only fetched a 3rd rounder.

I look at it as Shinkaruk will likley be a Pirri at best. Obviously he could be more, I just wouldn't bet on it. Pretty similar players, Pirri is just further along.

I would take a 1st round pick and Khoklachev for Russell.

If that were on the table, it'd be done by now.

Dallas has been pretty quiet. Have to think they'll be looking to keep up with the arms race in the west...

Price on Lee Stempniak is a second-round pick. Sense that's negotiable if a team will package mid-rounders as an offset.

Is Lee Stempniak turning into another Dominic Moore?
A middling guy who somehow continually fetches surprising trade returns?

Lee Stempniak this year has better stats than all but 2 players on our team this year. 16G and 25A. I can see him moving

Surprising to see the Oilers in. But I guess looking to add another winger with defensive deficiencies isn't really a surprise.

Yeah, I'm not saying he's a bad player or anything. Just that he's a 2nd-3rd liner, but seems to repeatedly get moved for surprisingly good value.

I'd love for the Flames to pick up Jamie McGinn. The kid plays the game hard and would be an important bottom-sixer on the third line. I've always been a fan of him. A second rounder for him though...?

Interesting. Khokhlachev has been frustrated with the Bruins for well over a year now. Can't say I blame him. He hasn't been given much of an opportunity while putting up a point-per-game in the AHL.
I hope the Flames can pull off something to get him.
EDIT - and before we get into the "whiny Russian" arguments, consider that virtually all of his peers on the Providence Bruins who have showed lesser offensive ability have been given bigger opportunities with the big club.

How would his game project in the NHL? Smaller bit skilled guy. Could he play c or better suited on w? Lh shot though.
