This. Look what Livingstone MacLeod ran for a candidate. An lpn who doesn't believe in science and is also a religious anti-choice nutbar. She got 67% of the vote.

Pretty obvious choice if we want to help the cost of living.

Do you think it's obvious to our complete R word voting base here in 'Berta, though?

Can't wait to move

I moved away in 2015, and I'm glad I did. Before the UCP I entertained the thought of possibly moving back to Alberta at some point in the future, maybe for retirement. But if this reprehensible government continues down this dangerous authoritarian path, I think I'll just stay away for good. This is not the Alberta that I grew up in. Far from it. What's happening in that province is absolutely sickening. As someone who spent the majority of my life there, it hurts my heart.

I missed the whole name change discussions pages back but I was thinking of a few names. Using Alberta in the name should do the trick and for good measure throw in some conservative synonyms.
Alberta Traditional Party
Alberta Conventional Party
or just get cheeky and go with Wildrose Party

You would generate way to much confusion using Wildrose Party both in terms of the historic party but also the current Wildrose Independence Party.

Doesn't the government control AHS? Why is it she feels pulling stuff away from AHS gives them more control? Why not have AHS fix stuff? Do the squirrels in her head get enough nutrition?

I agree with you on short term thinking on the right but I also think we need longer term, pragmatic solutions on the left, heck I think we need a strong economic and long term solution for the country but that is a different story for a different thread.
Do I think the NDP can win the next election? Quite possibly as the UCP are sputtering along. Will Nenshi wake up the UCP to be better on their game? Maybe.
Alberta politics is never boring, I will say that
|
I think we've made pretty good strides, if we can both a agree that the NDPs economic policy might be ideologically different from somes approaches, but at least has it's own internal logic and sense of responsibility to it, in terms of budgeting and longer term planning. And that the UPCs is more akin to people who are just willing to lie, cheat, steal, and move the goal posts to survive another day and prop up industries largely controlled by their friends and donors.
If we can agree on those two things, then I think we can agree that saying the NDP does poorly on the economy is the wrong framing. The better framing would be "the NDP has a communication problem on the economy", because for some reason a plurality of Albertans is disengaged enough to believe that the UPC has more responsible economic policy. I think if you switch the way you talk about it to that framing, here and in your personal life, you'll possibly get few people jumping down your throat about it here, and maybe you could swing 1 or 2 people to just not support the UPC, I don't even care if they support the NDP, I just don't want people thinking they are voting for an economically conservative party when they vote for those people.

Are you actually in North Van? Because the Cons are gonna win your election and cut health care spending by $4 billion and gut social services. It’s gonna get ugly there too very soon.
I don’t know where anyone can live that isn’t headed down a dark path. Ontario, Alberta and soon to be BC are all controlled by terrible conservative governments that are gutting health care, pushing privatization and literally ruining the 3 most prosperous provinces. Where else are people going to go? Quebec? Ha! Sask? The maritimes? Good luck finding jobs there equivalent to what we have in the big 3.

Isn't BC United merging with the Conservatives after this election defeat? So, they have their own BC UCP to deal with.
I still don't understand how the left leaning former Liberals came to the conclusion to merge with BC Conservatives instead of the NDP. Don't the policies align more close to the NDP? It went BC Liberals -> BC United -> BC UCP.
Will John Rustad turn into a super grifting Danielle Smith once in power?

BC Libs/United have been conservative in everything but name for years. Bigger misnomer than the DPRK.

BC Liberals were always more of a CPC type party ideologically.

BC Liberals were taken over by the remnants of the Social Credit Party after the latter imploded.
