The Flames executed the first ever sign and trade in NHL history with Tkachuk and now others are following suit

Yes, but Calgary is looking to trade guys (needing long term contracts) out, not taking more in.

Sharangovich + for Hanifin. Pretty easy. Don't forget to put context into the Conteacts they are moving, (they don't want to be there)

Not really. He looked great playing for Hughes for a period of time...less good away from him.
I wouldn't want him as the centerpiece of a deal.

I am honestly blown away that there is no leaks around the flames? This many guys available and so little information!
Maybe Conroy is more tight lipped then I would have expected!
Common Sec spill the beans!

If it's Sharangovich ++ sure, but the Devils kinda suck as a trade partner for us IMO.
- no 1st this year
- Only big money contract they probably want to get rid of has a NMC (Palat)
- Holtz would be awesome but they're likely counting on him to make the team this year so doubt he's available.
Everything else is pretty lackluster. I guess could be a quantity return type of move, future year picks?

Perhaps indication that last week's news onslaught was agent led.

I'd be fine with the Flames taking a flyer on Sharangovich and that's about it. He if comes this way for one of the UFAs then he better be filler

I see it becoming a trend because of UFAs knowing they want out of canadian/small markets ahead of time. So to maximize value in return on upcoming UFAs you ink the contract that the receiving team will commit to.
Also it's possible the gaudreau situation served as a cautionary tale for many GMs on the outside too.
It is cool though. Crazy it hadn't been done until just a year ago.

Iafallo is a middle 6 forward.
Kupari is probably not an NHLer.

Deals for top players are almost always quantity for quality. Teams in win now mode typically have no desire to move out a core piece. That’s why the standard return for a star player is something like a middle-six/pairing player, a late 1st, and a B prospect. The straight star-for-star hockey trade has been almost instinct for about 20 years.

Maybe there's no beans to spill
I (unfortunately) think there's a very realistic scenario where in the next couple of days we just have made the draft picks we already have, and haven't traded anyone.
And next week we see an extension for Lindholm.
Sometime this summer we see Toffoli & Hanifin traded for future picks & prospects.
Backlund & Tanev get traded to contenders at the deadline.
Not to be debbie downer but I think it's probably more likely (and more boring) for the above to happen than to see multiple Flames traded in the next couple days.
Hopefully we see some moves though because that's just not as exciting.

There better be a 1st in that +. Sharangovich is 25. What you see is what you get.

With Conroy GM I expect there to be much looser lips around the team, which is why it's hard to completely discount randoms who claim to have information.

It is totally bonkers -- and doesn't reflect well on the collective brain power in NHL hockey ops -- that it took as long as it did for someone to figure out how to execute a sign and trade, which has been a staple transaction in other leagues for decades.

I agree with this. I would welcome him as a low-risk, potential medium reward kind of player, but as a throw-in than the main piece coming back.
