It will also mean Hanifin doesn't get an 8-year contract.

I won't shed a tear over either of those results.

Guess we'll see. He wasn't much of a factor here in the playoffs.

Craig Conroy on the deal:

“It was extremely important to us to ensure this deal featured a first-round draft pick, and a third-round pick that has the potential to become a second-round selection. Additionally, we have been tracking Daniil the past couple of seasons and we are pleased to have been able to ensure he was a part of this trade. He has good size at 6’4” with good skating ability and speed. He commands a heavy shot, makes quick plays and we are excited about his offensive upside. At the AHL level he has been dominant in creating offense as a defenseman and we anticipate that to translate to the NHL.”

I thought Conroy was going to say he was the centrepiece

So, they sat down and said to themselves, "We need a first round pick, and a 3rd that can potentially (but highly unlikely) can become a 2nd".

Conroy really has the gift of the gab.

I like the fact that just like the Lindholm trade, he received value that was more valuable to him than the opposing team. Calgary needs a PP QB, and the opposing team valued those players quite a bit less due to need.

That's how good trades are made.

One small nitpick. I think this is basically a guaranteed second but agree on the overall point.

Is it possible that the Vegas trade was a bit of an FU to Noah and his rep? Maybe that was the tie breaker here.

I think the key part of that quote is

Quote:

This is where you rely on your scouting staff and trust they have the right read on a guy.

If correct and his game does tranlate to the show, this could be a home run.

Possible, and also sends a message as a new GM since everybody seemed sure Tampa was going to get him. I’d love to know what the Tampa offer was.

Could be. For Hanifin to get 8 years with a Florida team is now harder. Vegas would have to do a sign and trade in the offseason.

Same or worse. Don’t think he’d take a worse package on principle

That wouldn’t bother me if the offers were similar. I’m kind of a petty person.

There are some on CP making that claim (to criticize the trade).

I am just really happy to see us getting assets back for UFA's. I would rather watcha young team making mistakes with effort than watching an underperforming Vet squad.

Well, Conroy did as he promised. No UFAs. He moved all of them. I assume OK is extending.

First game with VGK he had only 30 seconds less than Alex Pietrangelo and more shifts then any other defenseman.

I am kinda indifferent, he was coming to be a UFA I think it's fair to say he won't sign, If I was the player in that position why would you want to give any leverage you have on your decision making about your future to your team?

I understand maybe he should of just said "I'm open to see how things go and possibly sign an extension" and then go the UFA route but then he is garnering a pure rental price in that situation regardless. It makes sense to try and make the 4 teams that could get him out bid each other.
