That team isn’t any better than last year. I love. 27 mins for Mcdavid and 25 for Whinesaitail. That seems sustainable lol

Who you talking to Leon?

I hope the Canes just crush them. Campbell gets pulled again, and it's full melt down on Oil HF.

other names of interest include Tkachuk at 10, Johnny at 12

then you have Evander Kane at 14. Oilers with 5 of top 43 forwards in TOI , despite playing only at home

Yamamoto has more TOI/G than Huberdeau..he's 6th on the Oilers then the dropoff occurs to the bottom group
Where are you pulling these TOI stats from?

I assume they were pulled from the NHL stats page

Yep had a look after I read your post.

The average NHL team utilized their best forward 20.2 minutes per game. Edmonton 24.7, or +4.4.

The average NHL team utilized their best 2 forwards 39.6 minutes per game. Edmonton 48.1, or +8.5

The average NHL team utilized their best 3 forwards 57.9 minutes per game. Edmonton 69.3 or +11.4

The average NHL team utilized their best 4 forwards 75.4 minutes per game. Edmonton 89.9 or +14.5

The average NHL team utilized their best 5 forwards 91.8 minutes per game. Edmonton 109.3 or +17.4

Then they run out of depth.

The Flames are -0.4, -2.2, -3.8, -4.8, -4.9 in the same analysis.

Also interesting ... the Flame go net positive for forwards 6-9 which really shows depth. Slightly negative for forwards 10-12. This is what a third line does for a team.

Man...that is just absurd.

I get they dont have the depth other clubs have, but they are literally going to wear their best players down and into injury territory if that continues.

I suppose some of that can be attributed too the fact they have lead a total of 5 minutes all season, but still its not a recipe for any kind of success.

I will say that it seems like they never wear out or miss much time to injury. When is the last time McDavid had an actual injury that kept him out of games? He's stayed remarkably healthy over the years considering how much he's on the ice.

No goods played 3D chess yesterday.

Were embarrassed by the Flames so they thought that by losing to Buffalo, it would show that the Flames aren't that great! Ha!

Read an article on athletes and wear a couple of years ago.

Wish I could find it.

Suggested the results may not appear in near term injuries, but debilitating issues when the athlete has this go on for 5 or so years.

You can wear athletes out.

And when you do they may still be in the lineup, but lose say 15% of their speed, etc.

It's amped up but it's not new.

Last year's data ...

Edmonton

Top Fwd +2.4
Top 2 Fwds +5.3
Top 3 Fwds +6.5
Top 4 Fwds +8.2
Top 5 Fwds +10.3

Calgary

Top Fwd +0.0
Top 2 Fwds -0.5
Top 3 Fwds -1.0
Top 4 Fwds -1.6
Top 5 Fwds -2.5

Biggest change for Calgary this year is the third line ... they were flat last year and no up in ice time so the fourth line in Calgary played more than the average fourth line.

Through three games this year the third line is taking ice from the top six and the bottom three.

Yeah but McDavid at 25 is in his prime while Draisaitl is still in peak years. I would expect that both of these players will be worn down by their next contracts but that will be the problem of the Leafs, Rangers, or whatever teams sign them as one of them will surely be gone and if Holland keeps managing the team very likely both. I'm not actually sure how they approach Draisaitl contract negotiations as he will want to be the highest paid player in the league and if they give him that they would have to top that contract for McDavid shortly after.

So do they go back to Campbell against the Hurricanes tomorrow? That is a dangerous game them, if Campbell gets shelled or chased in that game it could go to full free fall. Arguably the Hurricanes are the best team the Oilers have faced yet this year.
