Can't help but dislike the NBA even more, with how this played out.

Does this even make the Knicks a better team?

He didn't demand a trade he just stated he wants to play in NY and actually told them ahead of time he likely wouldn't sign. Pretty nice move when you compare it to Bosh and James leading the team on for months and then bolting. Denver at least has a chance at being a good team next season because he was open with them.
Scary lineup in NY now.

He demanded a trade by saying he wasn't going to re-sign in Denver and then talked about his desire to play in New York. He still played hard for the Nuggets though, and would've played out his contract as it stood. But with the American sports media shoving this story down our throats along with the possibility of the death of the small market in the NBA. I don't hate the player, I hate what the game has become.

Is the draft this year really that bad, that the Raptors had to trade their first-round pick (likely top-5) to Chicago for James Johnson?! What kind of move is that?!

I remember Billups making several huge 3pts on broken plays that post-season, I disagree with your assesment.
He's not a key offensive guy though, he should fit in well.

at least he was great in the d-league
F James Johnson is expected to return from a D-League assignment soon. He made the most of his time with the Iowa Energy, averaging 20.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while shooting .562 from the field and .929 from the foul line in his first seven games.
honestly though if you were going to move a late first for a player like johnson i dunno why you wouldn't look at terence williams at houston now. attitude issues but the guy is extremely skilled and would be great alongside derozan on the wing

I'm not countering your d-league quote, but everyone in the NBA who plays in the d-league tears it up. It's a league of self promotion.
I'm disappointed in this deal really simply because IMO, the Raps would have been better off holding the pick and say they land the 4th overall, perhaps they could have packaged the 29th overall pick with the 4th to move into 3rd if they really liked a player. I'm not completely writing this new guy off, but his numbers are poo, and will probably not change much.

There was a stats website that compiled stats for game winning shots and Billups was terrible in that stat compared to other guys in the league taking a lot of the same shots.
I think over 5 years he hit something like 10% of the shots in the last 20 seconds that would have given his team the lead.

Billups clutch stats (4th quarter or OT, less than 5 mins left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points):
2009/10: .470 FG%, .419 3PT%, .790 FT%.
37.7 pts, 6.0 reb, 6.4 ast per 48 mins.
2008/09: .404 FG%, .350 3PT%, .890 FT%.
32.1 pts, 4.3 reb, 9.6 ast per 48 mins.
2007/08: .457 FG%, .278 3PT%, .910 FT%.
38.5 pts, 4.3 reb, 7.4 ast per 48 mins.
His clutch stats aren't bad. His game-winning shots on the other hand are terrible (from 03-04 thru 08-09):
6/37 - .162 FG%

Good on DeRozen. Just saw a few clips the night of, and as soon as I saw a car, and then two baskets, time to turn the channel. Glad to see he did some classic stuff, ala Carter.
Things went downhill in that soon after Carter's spectacular performance oh so many years ago when extra players on the court and silly props were brought in, and now this.
I realize its for the fans, but its as silly and unrealistic as having Ovechkin driving the zamboni while stickhandling with an extra long stick in the breakaway competition.
I can see the trampoline coming into play too. They'll get Marv Albert out there out of his broadcast seat to launch himself off of it, banking it off the glass to a dunk competitor or David Stern.

For those that follow such things....
The Nets have traded for Deron Williams from Utah.
Edit: A couple of the tealking heads are saying that Williams going to the Nets is a better deal than had they acquired Anthony.

That's a great trade for New Jersey, as long as they can get Williams to resign or extend after next season. Otherwise, they gave up on a promising rookie with no long-term return.

Shocking the amount of turnover the usually-stable Jazz have gone through this year.

So ... rumours of a rift between Williams and Jerry Sloan. So Jerry Sloan retires and then they trade Williams. haha man.

IMO, it's as much as a win-win for each team. Deron is a great PG. I'm not sure about the best (that IMO belongs to Nash, then Paul), but anyhoo, the Jazz apparently now not only get a solid fairly young PG who's fallen on some hard times the past couple seasons in Harris, but also get a highly thought of prospect in Favours and two very high first rounders. I think it's a better return than Melo as well simply because Williams will make those around him better. Plus it fits well with their team already having a big in Lopez, having a super skilled PG around already has the starting blocks of something good. Good all around.
