Thanks for sharing the highlights! Looks like oodles of talent and compete here, and that's with 10 guys missing for college and a handful more playing in Europe.
Sergeev really noticeable in the highlights, and not in a good way.

It’s laughable that the Oilers media and their fans think that Howard can play top 6 this year. I’m not convinced that he will ever play top 6. He’s kind of brutal

Agreed, a lot of waving his hand around as the puck passed him by, and the head drop after every goal was not a good sign either.

I wonder if CP's recent prospect ranking would look differently today. Specifically looking at where Suniev, Say, and Phillips ranked.

Funny enough he was in the seats watching, they showed him on the broadcast in the 3rd period

My main observation from these two games is the forwards are more advanced in their development than I thought...while the D are less so.
Forwards:
-King should be in the mix to grab the 4th line opening, although unlikely as there is a lot of competition and some time in the AHL would benefit him. If not this season, than I expect him on the team next year.
-Suniev is the player closest to grabbing a spot in the top 9. Maybe we will see him after the trade deadline.
-Gridin has the tools to be a top 6 winger, but needs time in the AHL.
-Honzek also has the tools, but needs to show consistency. He needs to show he can carry water for the full season in the AHL.
-The Flames should sign Brisson to an ELC - he is 18 and has shown he can play. Signing him would be like getting a mid-round draft pick for free.
-Laing has a lot of potential to be a 3rd line power forward. Interested to watch his development this season.
Defence:
-I had higher expectations for both Brz and Morin than what they showed. Brz clearly needs work on his skating, but is great with the puck. Morin looked overwhelmed and will need a couple years in the AHL to see what we have. Neither are ready.
-Phillips was a pleasant surprise. Tough, fast, and better with the puck than I assumed. Interested to see how his offensive numbers are this year. He could easily find a place on the team in 3 seasons.
Goal:
-I thought both tenders looked poor.

They made a bad deal trading SOR for him. Howard is going to require AHL time. Savoie on the other end looks like he could make the jump. Just needs to be on a line with teammates that could help him out with the 2-way side because his game isn't about that.

I almost spit my coffee out. Sounds like the kind of player the Soilers are lacking....someone that can't play a two way game or excel in the post season.

I agree that Brisson should be signed, but what are his plans for this season and next? If he signs, he can't go to the NCAA. From a Flames' perspective, I do think he has shown himself worthy of a contract so far.

Agreed on the D Men. Still think we should be looking at trading Brz or Mews sooner rather than later. I still haven't really seen what some others see in Morin. I prefer Kuznetsov.
IMO it's basically useless to analyze goalies in these prospect games. They are super cold, there's little to no coherent system play in front of them, they have no prep or read time on opponents, they play limited minutes... it's just a bad situation to really see what we have in the goalies. Not that standouts dont stand out, but I would excuse bad performances here.

I think this showcase - not necessarily the wins or scores, but watching these kids play, and seeing how old they are - really supports some of the high rankings that this prospect pool enjoys on many pundits' lists.
There was a lot of skill out on display in these games, as well as a lot of size. Then you have to remember that basically the entire draft class from this past draft was missing (except Phillips), which includes 2 first rounders. Plus there were a lot of other prospects missing - other drafts with NCAA prospects, and European prospects. Plus, Parekh wasn't playing (and Basha didn't play last night).
I said it before and I will say it again, this rebuild won't take long at all if they bottom out this year/next year. There is too much talent coming up. 2 first rounds this draft (and expected more with the Andersson trade). Flames have the goalie in place. They have some really good defencemen in place. They will have a few good vets in place too (Weegar and Huberdeau) over the next several seasons. The only real hole organizationally at this point is that #1 franchise-type of center that is so elusive.
It has definitely been a little dark to be a Flames' fan the last couple of seasons ever since the Flames lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk. However, this certainly feels like the start of an exciting time here in Calgary. In the next 2-3 years, even people who don't follow the Flames very closely will be excited by what are starting to see on the ice. It certainly seems like the good times are not far off again. I am shifting my focus away from worrying too much about the wins and losses, and towards the evolution of the future core here. This is going to be a fun ride.

He was Val D'Or's captain this past season, so I imagine he goes back and plays with them again. Too late to commit to the NCAA this year anyways so I'm guessing he would jump at an ELC if offered so he can potentially play in the AHL next year.

There are a few folks on here who rag that Wolf will keep the Flames from bottoming out in the next few years, but what a luxury to have him as a core piece over the next at least 8 years. Treleving chased a starting goalie for 3/4s of the last competitive window, and the carousel of goalies was one of the reasons for the year-over-year up and downs and inconsistencies of the last group of Flames.
Team just couldn't get any consistency back there.
Having Wolf in net and locking in his tendencies already will be huge for this next group.
