I’m sorry but those teams that won division titles both had massive playoff disappointments. One with a 5 game beat down by the Avs, the other with a 5 game choke job vs the Oilers. If you want to go further back they got swept by the Ducks in 2017 too. This isn’t European soccer where league success is celebrated. No one cares about division titles. In this sport the real big games are played past April and this organization rarely wins them. Hopefully it changes but it’s not gonna happen this year, and I say that as someone who likes the direction Conroy is taking this team. I just am not a fan of rewriting the past, those teams were big disappointments because they should have achieved more with the rosters they had.

It was said they never won a big game...IMO that was false. Game 7 was certainly a big game.
Its really not worth a multi paragraph debate

Hughes is really good.
I hope that parehk can be that good for us.

Think that decision gate is long past. They are all in for playoffs.

The talent level just isn't there. You can see it with 3 on 3 play, we do not have a single 1st line forward on the team.
If we make the playoffs, it will solely be because of Wolf. This team was expected to be bottom 5 bad, I don't get the coach criticism when he has them in a playoff spot.
|
I’d argue the only reason they are where they are is due to coaching and goaltending.
They average 3 goals or less every game. They should be in the AHL with offense like that.

Find some players that can make things happen with more open ice. Our current squad struggles with it for whatever reason.

Mantha might have been that player this season who, presumably, would no longer be on the roster at this point of the season but could have contributed with his speed and scoring ability in OT games prior to TDL.

If fans are having these kind of discussions, imagine how the front office is navigating this. Some tough decisions coming in the offseason. In December an extension was almost a no brainer. Since then, talk if an extension based on the subsequent play seems foolish.

I get its largely a slotting problem, but let that be some other team's slotting problem next season.

It's also silly to expect them to stop trying. They're tied for a playoff spot. Of course they're going to try to make it.
As it's been said before, some of these players won't be around when the team is a contender and Huska probably won't be the coach. They don't care where the Flames end up drafting. They want to win now.

It's a 3-2 league and we generally fail to score 3 goals in a game. Result... predictable. It's a skill issue.

The next five opponents still have a lot on the line. It's going to be interesting.

Apparently there was a practice today? At least according to Flames PR there was. But no one has any reporting from it.

After today's practice, Huska said they'll know about Backlund tomorrow.

People who believe this reminds me of people believing Trump that his tariffs are helping the US economy. I mean all the evidence in the world can be there that the coaching has been poor statistically and that the roster is deep and not nearly as bad as the numbers suggest and yet some people refuse to believe what is clearly right in front of them. He is a nice guy and a great communicator though so there is that.
