If Parekh can translate his game in the NHL like Dustin Wolf has it would solve a whole lotta problems on this team. We need a good puck moving option from the back end and we have one putting up elite numbers in the OHL.
They are playing important games in March which I would have said would only happen if Wolf lived up to the hype before the season started. The big sell off was last season and we have a ton of picks coming up. Just gotta hope Parekh can figure it out in the NHL and that the picks we have hit.

The team is certainly out performing expectations, but a large part of it is there are 7 competent team then a drop off, and the Flames find themselves barely on top of a terrible group of teams that cannot string wins together.
It's a turtle race to be first round fodder.
At least if they do somehow find themselves in at the end of it, it will serve as valuable experience for the young players who will be here later when hopefully the team is actually competitive.

Is your whole purpose on this site to always be negative and then wait until the Flames stumble to rush and tell everyone how right you are about being negative. Like that is all you do? Then you argue with people if they are positive or happy that their team is in a playoff race. You do this multiple hours a day every day. Lowkey sad

I think Frost has been generating but not getting any production numbers. He’s really good with the puck.
I agree with Sharangovich and Zary post injury.

This team has enough excuses since the 4 Nations tournament. Injury, fatigue bra bra bra. Time to face the reality and do NOT push for the playoffs

The current rosters except Wolf, Huber, Kadri and Bahl are totally disastrous.
|
What do you mean do NOT push for the playoffs? What do you want them to do? Stop trying?

Weegar said it best after the game. “ It wasn’t a 1 point loss, it was a 3 point loss”.Flames can’t sit back on a team that played the night before for the entire 3rd period.

I think the saddest part of last night’s game was watching Hughes just keep the puck in OT, juxtaposed with Weegar in OT at one point deciding to just try and stickhandle through 3 Canucks for no reason.
Desperately need some offensive acumen on this team.

Effort is an easy thing to try to blame poor performance on. But I think, for the most part, it's rarely the actual issue.

I just think he’s got a sweet spot for time on ice. His game is not so effortless that he can tack on an extra 2-3 minutes a night. As the game progresses he gets caught on the boards more and takes more contact.

There were a few plays that Hughes made last night where you can see that his talent level is ahead of anyone else on the ice, and he's playing injured.
Will be nice to get one of those guys again.

Given the circumstances and importance of that game, I think it's ok, and quite frankly justified to be extremely frustrated with the effort that was put forth in what was the most important period of our season to date.
We have allowed 13 or less high danger chances against in 40 of the 64 games played this season, yet last night we gave up that amount in the 3rd period alone. Additionally that total is also 4 higher than we have allowed during any period we have played this year.
Am I happy with where we are to date? Certainly, but the team shouldn't escape criticism for that effort. Here is to hoping that both the players and coaching staff learned a valuable lesson last night.

Going into the season I wanted and expected them to be bottom five. Now that that it looks like they will be smack dab in the middle and give up their pick if they miss I am cheering for playoffs. They will have to lose out to get into the bottom ten and I don’t see it

If we don’t make the playoffs this year it will be because of our abysmal 3v3 play.
Find some players that can make things happen with more open ice. Our current squad struggles with it for whatever reason.

I don't understand blaming the coach. The players are playing hard for him almost every game.
The talent level just isn't there. You can see it with 3 on 3 play, we do not have a single 1st line forward on the team.
If we make the playoffs, it will solely be because of Wolf. This team was expected to be bottom 5 bad, I don't get the coach criticism when he has them in a playoff spot.

I've been noticing for a while now (maybe the last 2 months or so) that their defensive play and play in their own end and neutral zone has seen quite a drop off. It's been mentioned that their style is hard to play and I think that likely has a lot to do with the drop off. This is a team low on talent and depth and fighting for a playoff spot though because of this style as it's likely the best way to be where they are. Let's see if they can get that mojo back...

This is the one the reasons I’m leery of extending Andersson. His skating is already a bit suspect, especially defending the rush and retrieving pucks. It will only get worse over the course of his next contract.

Yeah I was in the sign him camp earlier but the way it's trending I hope they cash in on him this off-season.

The post was about not winning big games like last night.
Only games in round three are big games? Thats kinda silly.

Good call, I lament the lost opportunity last night, lack of killer instinct, etc. Self admittedly, I let this team stress me out more than reasonable, and my medication is booze, lol.
Going to be a 'fun' final 18 I'm sure.
