I'd say some rumors are Eklund level hogwash. Not all rumors are equal.

Depends on the source. If the source is connected then it's worth actually talking about, at least.
What's the problem with Ek?

Once again...even though Ek is (mostly) full of even HE has indeed broken the odd trade - usually with Philly to be fair.

But his hogwash sometimes provides interesting thought-games, does it not? (ie amusement)

If Lindholm is dealt, Backlund will almost certainly be extended. He probably wants to stay, so it’ll get done.

If Hanifin is dealt, the Flames will try to extend Zadorov. I’m not so sure he wants to stay.

Toffoli gets extended. He was the stop scorer last season, the team isn’t rebuilding, he’s a leader, and he wants to be here.

Kylington is wait and see.

Tanev won’t be extended and will be dealt at the deadline if the Flames are out of a playoff spot.

Lindholm and Hanifin: Traded
Backlund and Toffoli: Extended
Zadorov: 50/50 extended/dealt at deadline if miss playoffs.
Tanev: Dealt at deadline if miss playoffs.
Kylinton: Re-signs next summer.

I see Backlund and Lindholm more or less like a package deal.

If Lindholm is extended, then the Flames will be continuing to 'win now', and it is likely that Backlund would want to re-sign.

If Lindholm doesn't want to extend and is traded, then unless some other moves are made to turn the Flames into a contender without Lindholm (tough task), then Backlund would probably prefer to move on and try to win elsewhere, as he is not interested in being part of a rebuild.

Yes, the cap plays into it, but Backlund should provide a few more years as a very good 3rd line centre capable of shutting down top lines. He is a strong skater, and just had his best season. There is no point of jettisoning Backlund as long as the contract makes sense, unless the Flames are rebuilding.

I think Backs is the most likley to not sign for 8 years and to sign for a decent price. Him and Zadorov.

I really have a gut feel that Backlund will be re-signed for a 2 or 3 year deal, with a captaincy announcement to go with it. Probably wishful thinking, but I feel like that's going to be the next piece of this feel-good off season.

He can't re-sign until July 1, so it probably won't be the next piece of news.

I hope not, would much rather deal him and sign Lindholm.

I hope Conroy sends Kadri (retained 1.5 million per season) to Colorado for Olausson.

Signs Lindholm to an 8 year deal and signs Backs to a.2 year extension.

And agree with the poster above, Backlund deserves the C.

Zadorov loves Calgary and definitely wants to stay. We will see if he wants to stay bad enough to sign at a fair value.

Lindholm's clearly the better and younger player. But Backlund's just more possible to get a deal from.

I think he loves south beach more. This is to the Zadorov comment. Wrong quote and to lazy to change.

Ya, I'll take the younger better player every time. Lindholm gets criminally underrated around here. To me a fair comparison is Bergeron. Not saying he's at Bergeron's level, but when you look at the numbers from age 23-28, you see Lindholm has better offensive numbers. Slower start to his career for sure. However when did Bergeron have his career year? Age 33. Personally I don't think Lindholm has reached his peak as a centre. I feel like we will regret letting Lindholm go if we let him walk. If he refuses to sign, then that's a different thing. If he's willing to sign, get it done.

In a Russian interview was posted here a while ago, Zadorov said he couldn’t see himself spending the rest of his career here. Too cold, and he and his wife really like the U.S.

If he wants to stay then it should be an easy signing before the end if the summer.

Lots of comparables. 8.5-9milliom x 8.
Sign before the end of the summer.

If he won't do that he obviously doesn't want to win here

I didn't see that. I have no inside info on it, I am going by what he has said to the local media on exit interview day. Around 6 minute mark

Well, there's price and maybe term to consider. The better player doesn't always make the most sense.
