Darryl is right, they have to capitalize on their many chances more often. It's only game 2 and the Flames did get a point. A win would have been better. Let's see how the next 2-3 on the road go.

Monahan is becoming a huge problem. He looks like a shell of himself out there, and you simply can not have a guy putting up 0.5 ppg who is average at best defensively getting as much ice time as he does in a critical position and be a successful team.
he needs to be moved out of the top 6

So we can't play Kyllington because we imagine he'd force the play and turn it over the way Hanifin did to lose the game?

I watched all the sens and flames games last year. Brady is a beast. We need a winger like that. We have seen what a winger like Matt can do. I’m not buying for nine million plus long term.
Plus the stats are skewed to make Matt seem better but I will argue Brady wins more in his career when it’s all said and done. Make a wager and I will consider a gentleman’s bet.
I’m not mad either. I am inured to this type of middling effort. It’s taken a lot of bad hockey over the last few years to do that. Sadly 18/19 looks like another dimension away from what this team has devolved into.

Honestly the western Canadian teams might have 3 of the bottom 5 blue lines in the entire league.
I don't blame Markstrom for letting in any of those goals. You can't let a guy have that much time and space on the 2nd one.

82 games is a long season. A lot can happen in that time.
The first week of games are always blown way out of proportion and looked through with a fine tooth comb, but the story at game 20 is always very different from game 1/2, and often so is the landscape of the standings etc.
It's all about what they do consistently.
If they maintain this energy level, results will eventually come. Certainly enough to get them to the playoffs in the Pacific, which won't be difficult. There are finishing issues, but like anything, that won't be the case every night either. They need more talent I think, yes. But the make up is good enough to put them in the bubble at least.
I'm positive Darryl sees it the same way. It's all about what the overall body of work looks like. Breaks come and go, and so does confidence.
Oh... As for Monahan. Yeah, not a great first couple games, but it's a long season for him too. A guy that's scored 30 and posted 80+ points isn't going to become non-NHL caliber that quick.

Great effort but still concerns about the killer instinct of the top players. This game should have been put to rest in the 2nd, no way a young Ducks team should have been able to claw back in a game they were being dominated in for 40 minutes.
Hopefully the road trip is a chance for guys to start feeling it offensively.

It's two games--way too early to panic. I like Gudbranson better than I expected; he was terrible in Vancouver, but maybe Darryl knew he could use him properly when he went after him. Zadorov should sit next game.
Johnny it looking great so far--he was right to be pissed on the OT goal when he did his part defensively. He and Tkachuk seem to be clicking fairly well even if the finish isn't happening against a probably Vezina contender tonight.
Thought Markstrom was okay--didn't like their first goal though; he probably didn't either. Saw a lot of him out here on the west coast with Vancouver and he's had a tendency to have mediocre Octobers some years but usually gets stronger throughout the season, if you don't play him into the ground.
Coleman looks like the real deal.

I agree but his value is plummeting as we speak. I hope they are trying to see if he can bring any offence without Johnny to boost his value in buffalos eyes

Yeah, Gibson made a lot of routine saves but they didn't make him move around a lot. To his credit, he is a difficult goalie to get out of position. He is positionally sound and take a lot of shots right in the logo.
The good guys look like a good possession team in the first 2 games, but they are really lacking on the execution.

Monahan needs to go. Find a way to bring in Eichel, plan B being Hertl.

And I hate that Edmonton gets a team who wore themselves out coming back tonight and will play their backup. Every year the schedule makers love the mullet gang, and it sucks.

Sounds simple, you gain confidence by doing things right over and over and over again.
Not that simple.

What’s the over under on flames goals this year? 200, 210 … ? Anyone want to make a wager of some sort non monetary proportions? Or donations to CP?

Sutter’s second last year in LA they had 102 points and a .622 points percentage.
In his overall time in LA they had a .592 points percentage.
So yeah if they keep playing this way they will win more than they lose.
Through 2 games they have:
62.1% Corsi For
64.7% xGF For
And 21 High danger chances for and 12 against.
Problem so far has been 1 PP goal for, and 3 SH goals against. I think the PP looked dangerous tonight too.
First two games of the year have been very promising, even if they haven’t gotten the results yet. Honestly if people didn’t come into the season with any pre-existing bias about this team then they’d be really optimistic about how they’ve looked.

I don't know man. We watched them consistently outshoot opponents with GG as the coach and we lost a lot of those games
