I was thinking of how much we miss Brodie in OT, especially seeing them live.

Not enough talent on the team, that’s my take away.

Effort issues have been corrected by hiring a competent coach, but the fact is that this team is under skilled.

The flames for one. I’m sure they will start showing signs of trending upwards and if Dorian can get some good vets to surround the kids with watch out. Melnyk will need to spend.

And no DJs I won’t give it up. I don’t care what people think. I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to evaluate how my team trends based upon a sound community of analysts and fans. It’s anonymous. I get it. You’re looking to be a defender of a player you like. I kind of appreciate some of his game too but I wouldn’t commit long term to him. I would move him for a good package while his value is good and his contract isn’t prohibitive.

Confidence may be the single most important thing in succeeding at anything in life.

The effort was 100% there, but they played like they didn't have the finishing touch that it would take to sink the dagger in the Ducks in third.

Wins come in many forms. We've become very creative at how we lose, but getting that last goal takes killer instinct that comes from having been there and being practiced at it.

Putting that nail in the coffin is something this group needs to get more familiar with. They are much more comfortable with playing to a stalemate currently.

Still love the way they played the first 2 games. Completely controlled play.

They just need better finishing (4.4% is hilariously low) and for Markstrom to make some saves that a $6M goalie is supposed to make.
You're right and things should start to level out over more games if the team keeps up this work.

BUT, it's still incredibly obvious a major piece is missing from this team being a contender.
When Gaudreau has to be in on 80% of your offense, there's a problem with the offense.
He's not McDavid/McKinnon & he basically has to be with the current makeup of the team.
The team is setup to fall short.

In the words of the great John Tortorella, "we need a god-damn save."

For the "we'll win more often than not with metrics like that" crowd, might wanna look up how Sutter's last year or two went in LA.

Or Gulutzan. it's not something that has to correct. Especially if your goalie is not giving quality starts.

Also so weird to not see #5, on the back end. Tanev and Zadorov didn’t look good together. Lots of blunders and bad passes. Lack of communication. Not being able to read and play off each other.

Growing issues as a pair, but Zadorov made quite a few individual mistakes too.

I thought Andersson looked good at defense. Gudbranson is way better than I expected, atleast so far.

It was a fun game, even though we lost. I was at last game before the pandemic and didn’t expect to be without hockey for so long. Definitely a bit surreal being with fans.

Hot take: by the end of the year, there will be legitimate questions about whether Monahan is still an NHL player.

Very frustrating, but it shouldn't have been even close to OT to begin with.

Probably should have had Eat bread out there.

If Darryl’s biggest contribution is to get them to try harder, we’re in big trouble.

I think I know what sutter is trying to do with zadorov and Tanev. Perhaps he’s hoping Tanevs influence will transfer to zadorov and big z will smooth out his game. Z has a lot of work to do but I just didn’t see anything those two could hang their hat on. Tanev is steady but he can’t make up for the lack of offence on that pairing. He played great with Ok this preseason. Go back to that. How much worse can it be after zadorov is firing no look backhands into the slot.

I put this loss on PP1 for not scoring late in the game. So good at snapping it around like summer shinny but didn’t cause Anaheim much fear as they let them cycle it around the perimeter. Andersson is not offensive enough to be the quarterback of PP1.
