He’s actually really bad on the PK but good defensively 5v5
Sort of an anti Nordstrom in that regard

The price is negligible. Except it adds up when you pay it year after year for all sorts of bottom six guys.

If I’m not mistaken he can play the wing or center? Good to have versatility

Also it being next year allows for some potential to get something back at the deadline if things go south
It’s a lot more palatable than Edmonton’s third which was rumored and the timing made no sense

I don't mind this at all, but I'm sure many will bitch and moan about this ad nauseum, so I'll bow out of the thread at this point.

Asset with low probability of value for a bottom 6 player who isn’t particularly notable

I know a lot of us are saying "there are players like this in free agency"...and there are, but are there any of them as good as Pitlick willing to sign only a 1-year deal?
|
There are players like him signing 6 year deals @ 3.6M dollars per season (Goodrow).
Pitlick is a big bodied right handed shot that provides physicality, work ethic and the ability to chip in 12-15 goals in a bottom six capacity.
He checks a ton of boxes for this roster. It's not a sexy acquisition but one that will improve this team.

1.75M for 1 year is a palatable contract. Hard to say if you could find something comparable in free agency.

I agree, but they also acquired an extra 2nd and 3rd in 2022 last year. Obviously you want as many kicks at the can as possible, but they've got 5 picks before this one in 2022.

A 4th round pick sounds about right and you almost think there could be another deal but Tyler Pitlick only has 1 year left on his contract. So why did Seattle pick him in the first place? I guess they need to stock up on a few picks as well.

Is he better than any randos that would have been available for close to league minimum as free agents?

4th is what it is. It could be a Brodie or Gaudreau or could be countless other guys who will never even sign a pro contract.
No meltdown from me as I expected a 3rd and this is better

If he can be in the lineup consistently its better than having Nordstrom and Leivo and Simon back and forth. Should of just kept Hathaway at that contract.

It is worth noting that Pitlik has 22 games of playoff experience under his belt. Which is about just as much as any roster Flame who isnt Lucic.
